i didn't even know there was cashew butter - interesting.
as far as your question goes; i'm not 100% sure but i'd imagine that a handful of the nut would contain more fiber and protein. plus, the peanut butter your eating could contain sugar, salt, added oils and other additives.
both are reasonably healthy, but i say; go for the nut if you can.
Natural nut butters are simply ground up nuts. If you read the ingredients and the only ingredient is "peanuts" or "cashews" or "almonds" then the nutritional value is the same. However, if the nut butter has any OTHER ingredients, such as oil, sugar, or salt, the nutritional value changes slightly.
The difference is very small, but if your nut butter has added ingredients then the handful of nuts is more nutritious. Don't go too crazy about it though, both are healthy foods in moderation.:]
i think it's harder for me to stop after a handful of peanuts than it is to stop after a tablespoon of peanut butter.

lol i think its harder after a spoonfull of peanut butter...i could walk into the kitchen...grab a handfull of almonds or peanuts then go about my day...if i stop and take a spoon full of peter pan it could lead to madness......MADNESS I SAY!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds to me like it depends on the person as to what what they can stop eating once they meet the portion size.
I personally can stop rather easily with both, unless we're talking almonds...then I just keep going and going and going...xD
