IS it just me?
Why can't there be a magic pill for weight gain??
Or a special tea that helps with hunger and not appetite control?
It is so frustrating when you are trying to think positive things about gaining and then hydroxycut and nutrisystem and jenny craig and special k are rolling around every 5 mins....ah.....
Going to grab my snack now!
It's not just you...there are a LOT of ads about losing weight..especially on late night TV. However I think you know that in your mind that these ads are not aimed at you.
Maybe you should read more instead of watching TV? ^^ I know that when I have the opposite problem from yours it really helps. The commercials on the TV with all the tempting junk foods used to drive me nuts. Now I don't watch TV so much anymore.
I counteract all the weight loss ads by watching ghost whisperer on dvd. I love JLH's fuller figure. It makes me want to eat more.
OMG, I Know what you mean. I always feel so alone in the weight gain world! Everyone at work is trying to slim down and it seams the whole world is wanting to lose weight!
Its been so hard for me because ever since I was small I have been a skinny little thing and it was only when I turned 18 did I start to put on weight and reached a healthy 8stone 2 (115 lbs) which I was happy with and then with a few months I drastically lost weight down to 7 stone (100 lbs)! I used to have B/C cup breasts and now im ranging on a A/B! I feel so unhealthy! Its not that Im not eating because I do eat and I eat loads of junk too! Im so worried I will just keep dropping weight and when I look in the mirror I hate what I see. My clothes dont fit me anymore and I cant even buy new clothes because not many stores stock size 6 (US 0).
Is anyone else in the same boat as me?
Kirsty x
OMG YES!!!!! When I was in Cornell Westchester Hospital, they were incredibly strict about censoring what we could watch. We were only allowed to watch tv from 4-8 onweekdays, and there had to be a staff member censoring so that they could change the channel whenever something was inappropriate (ie, diet commercials, exercise commercials, shows about skinny people, etc.) We had to change the channel every 5 seconds.
They were extremely strict there. It was actually quite scary at times.
WARNING: Ranting child ahead.
I wouldn't mind the commercials so much if they didn't involve such unrealistic goals. I really hate it when a weight loss program commercial comes on and a person says "I was 130 pounds at 5'4 and hating it...now I've lost 20 pounds and I'm a a size one!" SERIOUSLY, PEOPLE! These programs should only be for those who are seriously overweight, and youknow what? You don't need to advertise it, because the only people that will care are those that shouldn't. Every overweight person I know that watches televisiondoesn't give a darn about the weight loss commercials, yet nearly everyone in the ED program I attended did. The media may think that they're helping defeat the obesity "epidemic", but they're only making it harder for people to recover from eating disorders!
I refuse to watch TV anymore. I won't even watch cartoons, since they have those stupid "get off your big behind and get active" commercials, which once again encourage more underwieght adolesents than overweight ones. It's no wonder EDs are popping up in 8-year-olds nowadays.
I am so peeved at all of the action being taken to change people's life styles. I read the weight loss board here occasionally, and have yet to see someone that's been inspired to lose by some news report or advertisement; they decide to lose for personal reasons. The New York restaurant thing really ticks me off, because people recovering from EDs really don't need or want to know the calories in the dishes. We're trying to AVOID the whole restriction and good/bad foods thing. Having calorie counts on the menu isn't going to stop people from ordering Bic Macs, either. I've seen living proof of that plenty of times. If one is obese and regularlygoes to Micky D's, chances are that they don't even know what a calorie is. If dieters really need to know the CC, they can go online to find it. Yes, Ed recoverer's can do this too, but at least it's not forced upon them by being plastered on the menus!
>_< Rant over.
I counted 4 commercials that related to weight loss when I had on the tv as I got ready for class this morning. . I was just trying to eat my omelet.
In a way though, some of those commercials are almost funny. But the one I really hate is where it shows all these great abs when my stomach is all bloated.

Oh my god. I can relate so much!
Alas, my stomach remains bloated due to new GI problems despite weight restoration. I have a six-pack when I'm not bloated. Unfortunately that is very rare...:/
I HATE the fact that there are so many weight loss commercials, magazine ads, even radio commercials... enough! Good grief! Everywhere you turn there is something weight loss related.
It's just as frustrating given that it's now swimsuit season and everyone around me is drinking slim fast or whatever and talking non-stop about how they are trying to lose weight, etc - blah, blah, blah
Ok, I'm done... off to get some Ben & Jerry's!!
It definitely isn't just you. No matter what channel I am watching, it seems like if you hang around for half an hour, at least one weight loss commercial appears. Of course, the other commercials are all about food so it drives me even more insane! Even on websites, most of the ads (which help make the websites free which I do understand) are regarding weightloss now! It is enough to drive you batty!
and magazines aswell....everytime i want a trashy celeb magazine to read (im a teenager...thats my excuse) you can guarentee it will have articles on 'how great' emaciated celebs look or the latest fad diet or exercise craze!
i HATE it so much...especially when people (ie. my mother) presume you read them because you want to look like that!
I think January to March are " resolution to lose weight months so lets sucker these folks with our get thin quick scheme". I think Januarey with the weight watchers, Jenny cragis and LA weightloss centers are the worst months. OH and the lap band and bariactic centers are really bad
Why do I get bad cramps after I eat?
