Hi, kelly_harv.

Way to go on your 13 lbs!

I'm not an expert, but am just wondering if you are combining exercise and diet.  My understanding (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong) is that when you do diet alone, you will lose weight, but it consists of both fat and lean muscle.  When you combine diet and exercise, you are more likely to lose more fat while maintaining (or increasing if you add weight training/resistance exercies) your lean muscle mass.

Fat is more voluminous and takes up more space.  Think of it this way, if you had a one pound brick (representing lean muscle) sitting beside one pound of Cheerios, the bucket of Cheerios would be much, much bigger than the small brick.   When you lose fat, you're losing all that volume so you look much smaller.  If you lose fat and lean muscle, it's kind of a wash.  (The more lean muscle mass that you have, by the way, the better because lean muscle burns more calories than the equivalent of fat mass.)

I am sure that someone is much more capable of explaining this than I am, but I just wanted to provide what bit of info I knew.

Good luck in your healthy journey.  All the best,

Dawna

im just counting my calories, the site says i should have 1300 a day

I read somewhere that one clothing size relates to about 15 pounds. Of course, this is an approximation and depending on your body type it may take more or less weight to see a difference in your size. I've lost about 18 pounds and while my clothes are a bit looser (more comfortable), I am certainly not needing a smaller size yet (except my bra... bummer, eh?).

Walking is great exercise, especially after you've had a baby. I've had 3 c-sections. I lost a considerable amount of weight after my second by counting calories and walking. I would go in the evening (8 or 9pm), while my husband stayed home with the kids (generally sleeping by this point). Before that, I would sit on the couch and snack at night. So, this was a great routine to develop. I know it seems impossible to make time for yourself with a new baby... but you'll be a much better parent if you do.

Keep up the good work!!!

Hello,

I have lost 16 pounds (diet and exercise combined).  My clothes are definitely looser.  People who have not seen me for a while have commented upon seeing me again that my face is slimmer and that my clothes aren't as tight.  That I said only and only if the next size down (14W) happens to be a bigger 14W can I barely fit into it.  I think the vast majority of us hold most of the weight in the "gut/butt" area.  Walking briskly 30+ minutes or more a day is excellent for the upper thighs, buns and stomache muscles.  I personally try logging in 60-90 minutes a day when I am not doing some other form of exercise.  (I don't do all the walking at once.  I space it out).

"Ask Mary" the nutritionist on this Calorie Count web page (advice tab) recently had "butt/hip" toning advice.  Link below should work:
