Audiobook suggestions for exercise!

Quote  |  Reply

Hi!

I was wondering if anyone had listened to any fantastic books lately. I really enjoy audiobooks and wanted some suggestions to put on my iPod for when I exercise. I don't want anything too deep or disturbing- just fun!

Thank you!!

If you like fantasy at all, I highly suggest Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. Lots of political, cultural, and scientific satire. Easily the funniest books I've ever read or listened to. The narrator, Nigel Planer, is fantastic. His British accent is perfect for the books.

Seriously, these books make me laugh out loud in public. On the subway, walking around, whatever. It's embarrassing sometimes, but worth it.

Another excellent book, less fantasy than Discworld, by Terry Pratchett and Neal Gaiman is Good Omens.

Dreadnought by Cherie Priest is fun steampunky fluff that never slows down

There is a one that a friend at work (and editor) recommended to me - "The Book of Unholy Mischief". I put it on my ipod about a year ago, but didn't listen until this spring - it was excellent! I think its a teen novel, possibly, but good for anyone to listen to, and the narrator of the audio book really makes the audio book shine.

Anything by John Green. He is a fantastic writer and his books aren't superficial or to depressing... Well except maybe The Fault in Our Stars but it's my favourite.

I listen to The Alchemist while exercising.  I re-listen to it often, too.  And since I already know the story, I don't start at the same place each time.  I just choose a random track to start from.  It's very motivating.

I listened to "Peter pan" while on the treadmill. I love reading and audio books but I found that music is really what I need while working out.
