We just launched a brand new Food Logger!

Dear Calorie Counters,

I am excited to announce our new Food Logger! It's practically a completely new product and we believe that it will make the daily logging of new foods much more efficient. It may take a few minutes to propagate to all accounts, so if you don't see it yet, just come back in half an hour.

Here's an overview of most of the changes. In order to enable the new logger, you'll have to click on "Great - let me test it" at the top of this page. We'll also continue to support our old interface until all bugs and kinks have been ironed out. If you'd like to provide a bug report or suggestions on how to make the food logger better, please follow this link.

I am looking forward to your first impressions (and keep in mind that all change is difficult, but sometimes it's well worth it ;)

looking2change, you add it just like anything else. When you type in "water" or "tea" etc it may come up in glasses or grams but you can change it to oz if you like with the drop down. Very easy! You can even keep up "water" and "change the meal" and add it to several at one time. Awesome.

so here's my feedback so far-

  1. I can’t go to tagged items & get into my tagged activities w/ out 1st going into the activity log whereas I used to be able to get into all my tagged items by simply going into  the tagged items tab then clicking “activities”, "recipes", etc. This is also the only way I can get into my tagged recipes & forums.
  2. “My Home” & the “Food Log” are the same page. I like the old “Home” where I could see my friends, journal entries, etc.

Everything else seems very user friendly so far. Also, I’d like to see the format, especially for date change, from the new food log adopted for the activity log.

Great start on an improved way to track!  I'm not ready to make the shift quite yet because its been a bit buggy still for me.  Just a couple things that I'm sure you guys will work out in the weeks to come.

1) It's not clear to me if I can create a meal when I have down time.  In other words, in order to create a meal, it seems I have to enter it directly into my food log for that day.  It would be nice if I could plan ahead when I have a few minutes and enter a number of meals that I know I will use often, rather than having to create them on the fly.

2) When I created a meal today, it showed up twice in my food log, but only calculated the nutrition information once.  So there it was listing twice in my food log.  As if one of the meals was a ghost, when I deleted the extra meal there, it showed only one, but then all the nutritional information went down to zero.

3) When you mouse over the meals it's too sensitive or somehow not calibrated right.   When I enter a food, autofill offers me some choices.  But then I can't highlight/choose the auto entry (which was correct, so it's a good thing that I will use) without the whole dialog box disappearing.

I will follow the forum and also try it again in a few weeks to see if I can work with it better.  I am using Windows Vista.

Also, is the "create a meal" option going to work on the iPhone app?  I use my app allllll the time when I am using your wonderful tool.

Thanks!

Am I missing something? I still see only the old food logger.

I love it so far.  I just can see where to get back to the CC home page from the new logger.  Any suggestions?

One thing...The entries in my Weight log seem to be gone.

The graph is blank, even when I switch back to the old view.

This is just feedback.  I tried to create a meal "breakfast #1".  My meal list always shows two "breakfast #1's".   I've deleted the meal and tried again with the same result.  Maybe there are still some bugs...

Probably the reason why they are allowing to switch back to the old version is so that you can see your home page as it was until they get the bugs fixed.

The welcome to new food logger link at the top is for just that and they give the switch back to old at the top also.

You can by going back to older days then select meals, create a meal from old data. Real easy and great!

Check out http://caloriecount.about.com/weight-log-miss ing-ft187520 as it has nothing to do with new food logger.

Loving the new food logger, I'm finding my way around and I love the new meal feature!  Didn't really use recipes before as the items I add aren't generally in the database and recipes wouldn't let you add custom items that you'd tagged - so this feature is brilliant for me!

Two small things, otherwise this seems perfect!

1. When I do create a meal it seems to create it twice every time!  Just a minor annoyance!

2. When I'm trying to add a Custom food I can't seem to click on the per 100g bullet...?!  Plus, is the Calories box meant to mean for your serving size or per 100g if that's how you're entering it?!

Thanks!! Lee-anne

I'm having exactly the same problems and questions ... how can I log custom foods if I can't enter the nutritional value per 100 grams, and what's with the kcal box?

PS: I've always used custom foods, tags and recipes ... is there anything really new in this new logger, good looks aside? I'm not saying I don't like it! Just trying to figure it out!!! ;)

I got kinda of tired logging the same things sometimes,I think is good way for me to come back and do my thing.Funny thing,I kept track of my calories without logging into my account at home and on the run,so far losing weight slowly, but is coming off.

I kinda of hated the old calorie finder bc,it was annoying rewriting everything all over and having to look for it.

thanks so,much,

iam back.

Sorry -- but now I'm struggling with something else. =P

It seems that every time I add a value, it changes it drastically.  I'm trying to enter a food manually, and it's fine until I navigate away from the page; it then tries to adjust the calories to 10K for the item and no matter how many times I delete it or try to re-add it, it keeps insisting that I ate a 10,000 calorie Larabar this afternoon.

I'm getting this too!  Bit of a shock to find that adding a little All Bran to my breakfast "cost" me 5600 calories instead of 56! Did you find the total changed after you added another item?

I think it happened as soon as I navigated away from the page, whether I was adding more food or simply moving to a different website.  It never reverted back to the original value, either: the problem compounded until I was about 30K in calorie debt. xD

I took screenies and shared them with Hal (one of the developers), and he says he's working on getting it fixed. =)

OK I like the new look and it's more easier than the old one to interact.  Now, I have a silly question. Where/how do I enter my vitamins??

When I search for a food, and then try to check "limit to generic" it takes me to My Meals (away from the search).

Also, for meals - it would be nice if you could add a meal with one click (without having to look at the calories for the meal before it gets added to your food log.

Other than that, it's great!

It took me a while to learn how to work the calorie counter when I first joined and finally got it down pat so I was a bit skeptical about the new counter.

I tried the new one earlier and it was not difficult to do. I actually do like alot of things about it. I'll have this one down pat again in no time.

Thanks! Smile

I totally agree with you on this one.  I've been wanting to add vitamins since day one that I joined.

I was having the same issue with this yesterday, but tried it again today and it worked...Are you still having this issue, AGirl?

When I enter a quantity, then select the meal (i.e. I told it I ate 2 eggs, then select 'Breakfast'), it blows away my quantity, and I have to re-enter it.  Easy to work around, but awfully silly. Is a fix for this bug in the works?

Add a custom food. Hover over a meal, then click "Add Custom Food".  Expand the "Add more nutrients" section, fill it all in, and give it a name.

This will probably show up in recent foods (though I haven't tried that).
