The New & Improved Calorie Count Dashboard

Quote  |  Reply

As you may have noticed, we revamped our dashboard to make it even easier for you to track your calorie intake and expenditure. On the new dashboard you will see ‘Food’ = calories you eat, ‘Activity’ = the calories you burn through logged exercise, and ‘Remaining ‘= how many calories you have left in your calorie budget to eat for the day. The ‘Remaining’ calorie number is based on what your target intake is set to plus any logged activity which would allow for an increase in your allotted calories. Technically, you want to aim for zero remaining calories at the end of the day to ensure you are not over or under -eating.

Previously, we had incorporated an activity level which estimated the amount of calories you would burn every day on a baseline level. While it is accurate your body requires a certain number of calories at rest, it is a variable, often inaccurate calculation. Because we want to make things as simple and clear as possible for you, we have removed that number from our dashboard and analysis pages. However, if you were used to the old format, you can switch back by clicking the link on your dashboard.

As you may have noticed, we have incorporated the new design into the Old Dashboard experience. We now also offer a toggle version that allows you to see Net or Remaining calories depending on your preference/or to see both. The selection that you make there affects what your analysis graph displays for you. We've also exposed the water logger and added a date widget. We are listening to your feedback and are doing all we can to ensure you have tools that work for you.

My feedback is not about the dash board but about the food log. I wish there were 2 snack slots one for my mid morning post workout snack and one for my afternoon snack so I can see my meals broken down better and be able to plan and see where my week points are without having to do the math and invision it in my head

I'd like this too.. To be able to create your own food slots/name them, etc. I eat 6 meals a day.. it would be helpful so I can keep things separate and see what my calories are for each one

yeah!  Yes!  that would be nice Original Post by schmit:

I, too, dislike the new dashboard.  The old format was easier to follow and (for me) the caloric calculations were pretty accurate.

Hopefully you go back to the old format.  I have recommended this site to many people...but might start looking for a new one.

WHERE IS THE LINK TO SWITCH BACK?????? IT IS NOT ON THE DASHBOARD.  ARE YOU TRYING TO HIDE IT FROM US???????

I agree ...  I have at least 2 snacks per day one in morning , one mid day and perhaps another after supper depending on my intake for the day  ... can use other and snack for 2 snacks to track but an additional snack slot would be beneficial  ...  my dietician recommends the many smaller meals ever 3-4 hours which means more than one snack in a day  ... everyone's needs are different though  ...  many do follow a strict 3 bigger meals a day which works for them.

Dashboard....click on "see net calories"

Everything can be seen on the new dashboard like the old one if you click on "see net calories"

I don't see what the problem is with dashboard view. Analysis is my problem and they are working on that.

Thanks so much, Igor and team, for a wonderful site.

The analysis graph is useless to me - It is always stuck on days in prior weeks and I can never see any summary data for the day I am on.  And certainly can never see any information on net calorie deficit.

Hate to complain since its a free site but I wonder if others have issues with it.

where is the link?  I want to switch back to old "look" and cannot fin the link?

I don't like it.

I actually find it more confusing because you see, I'm old now. I just turned 21 and I just can't understand technology the same. CC has always had the same kind of "dashboard" even with slight changes since I started ... oh, lordie, how many years has it been? I forget in my old age (I joke, but lately my memory has actually been pretty terrible).

I liked seeing the deficit, because the amount of calories I burn day today varies greatly because the hours that I work change and I don't work out every day, so I don't have a problem with going over my 1600 calories I plan for a lazy day, if I have had a busy day.
But then the new dashboard says I've overeaten and I can't see the deficit... and the analysis says I've overeaten.
I also miss that the thing doesn't automatically add how many calories I roughly burn as a baseline.
I don't care if it is slightly off, I miss it.

Thanks for the option to switch back, I shall be doing so after this post.

The link is on the dashboard page and is right under the words, Welcome.  If you can't see it, you will probably need to reload your page.

It is on the Dashboard... Right under the word Welcome.  If you can't see it, log out and log back in, or reload your page.

You can also click this link and it will go to your page.

Switch back to the old Design

I find the Calorie Count method of logging in food extremely difficult to use.  It is the opposite of simple.  I am a heavy computer user but I seldom find an interactive site as complex as yours.  In particular, as one is working out a meal, once you have typed an item in, it seems to be impossible to remove it if you change your mind as to whether you want to include it (eg not available, too many calories, intended to eat it but didn't, etc.).  Also, there are too many 'ways into' the same info presented in slightly different formats - very confusing.  And there is no Help button to assist in using the food log.  As you have "improved" your website the whole exercise has progressively become more difficult.  While I can see the value of having such a site it does not have to be as user unfriendly as yours is.  I don't intend to use it in the future for these reasons.

I agree that some aspects are a bit tough and you have to put more of an effort in.  But compared to many of the FREE sites out there, I think CC is on par if not better.  I like the interface much better and the analysis and features are far greater than most of the FREE services and apps out there.  And I've tried 4 or 5.

how do i get this topic to keep from sending me emailsevery time someone posts.. they need to change the topic to the New dashboard and takeout the word improved. lol

Definitely remove the word IMPROVED.

Wow...guess I'm one of the few people on here who actually like the new dashboard huh? Even though the burn meter is gone, the activity levels still factor in I'm pretty sure. When you expand the net calories thing on the home screen, you can see how much you burn based on your activity level.

I  prefer this display better than the old one, actually, because, now, I choose how many calories I personally want to consume in a day (not factoring in activity levels or anything) and only eat that much. If I work out, then I get to eat more. You want to get this number as close to zero as possible to ensure a stable and continuous calorie deficit. Your actual "net calories" is the total amount of calories you burn due to your activity level - your chosen calorie intake for the day.

That explanation is more than a little confusing so I'll break it down a little easier using the actual dashboard features:

You choose the amount of calories you want to put into your body everyday (for me the number is 1400). The remaining calories box tells you how much of that original amount you have left. If you exercise, you get to eat more calories. So this number, which I will call the "net logged calories" is based on two things: the calories you consume, and the calories you burn through logged exercise.

If you click on the "see net cals" link under the total calories box, you can see two numbers: one is the total number of calories you've logged (basically, the number I described above) and the other is the number of calories burned based on your activity level (this is essentially the burn meter). Beside it, you see a number that is your actual net calories for the day (total calories burned factoring in activity level - net logged calories).
