Belly Fat - What is your success stories

Quote  |  Reply

I have lost 45lbs....got another50 to go.  Doing strength 4 days per week and cardio 2 days (eliptical) per week.

Legs/Arms/shoulders/upper back......very little fat.

Belly area is were all my remaining fat is hanging around.  I know this the hardest fat to lose.  I am cutting the fats to under20% of total cal intake.

What are some of your success stories with belly fat.

my totally unhelpful success story is that I HAVE belly fat instead of all-over indistinguishable fat.  AND I'm pleased to have saddlebags instead of just fat thighs.

Probably not what you were looking for. Good luck on the quest to rid yourself of pesky belly fat.

I'd really like to know, too. I mean... I do crunches. I try to put in at least 50 a day. Or maybe 50 in the morning and 50 at night. I've lost weight, but only a about 2-3 in off my waist. That's with the crunches.

I've also tried some of the abs exercises from the excercises section from above, but those aren't really consistent...

Maybe an abs routine that doesn't take more than 2-3 min? That you can do when you're in your room and get bored?

What are you eating?
Abs aren't very big muscles, and working them doesn't burn a whole lot of fat; so doing hundreds of crunches or other direct ab work is just about pointless.

Chmecray is asking the right question, 'cause abs are build in the kitchen, not in the gym. (Old bodybuilding saying, gym wisdom from Jack LaLanne's days. And somehow this still fails to penetrate the public consciousness...)

Eastside had some references just the other day that showed that this may in fact be slightly inaccurate. Interval training may actually preferentially burn abdominal fat in women - so go get in your daily HIIT. You should anyway - apart from that intriguing possibility, lowering overall body fat percentage is the only way to have visible abs.

Try doing the Real Fast Fat Loss program by Alwyn Cosgrove and Chad Waterbury  for 6-8 weeks. You'll see better results than doing another 6-8 weeks of crunches.

Hey Cole, I am very strict with food due to diebetes. No potatoes, no pasta...eating very little starches except for Weight Watchers wheat bread which has a great protein - carb balance.  My protein comes from chicken breast, lean ground turkey, venision and very little beef or pork.

I eat very little sugar. My carbs come from oatmeal, veg, fruits ect. My diet balance is 40%protien, 40% carbs, 20% fat.

I was 300 lbs and have done a good job losing almost 50 lbs and the fat remaining is all around my mid section which we all know is the hardest to lose. Unless I am missing something with diet..... I don't see the kitchen being a real contributor to my belly fat.

Meh, the point is that you can work your abs until the cows come home, but only overall weight loss will whittle your body fat down to where they can be seen. Which is why abs are build in the kitchen - eating right is the only way to see them.

 Which is what you're doing.

It will take a while, but worthwhile goals usually do - and you're going about it the right way. Just keep losing weight, keep up the strength training, and you should see the results you want in time.

Thanks Mekor......appreciate the sanity check man.

I can see the fat has melted off my arm, legs, shoulders and back (46lbs) ....the stuff that my body is going to burn last is belly fat.

Thanks again.

I know it has been said over and over again, you can NOT spot reduce. I still got my stomach and I am sure is going to be the hardest and last thing to lose. First of all, you must do more cardio (i mean sweating and get your heart rate up cardio) and then do some ab exercises, and yes a 2-3 min routine is sufficient, but every other day other wise your abs get used to it.

Now if I could only get the motivation to use my advice Laughing

I Agree. You need to squeeze in some more cardio.  If you can't get to the gym before or after work (or where ever you go) just jog around your neighborhood. Laughing

Don't forget what they say about abdominal fat in men...first place you gain it and, the last place you lose it and that really holds true.  From the sound of it you are doing everything right, good diet and exercise program it's just that it's going to take a while.  Belly fat is stubborn.

Just don't get discouraged, keep treading forward and one day, you will notice it going down albeit, little by little.   Your pants will be a little loser and one day you'll wonder where your gut went.

japoll17 is correct. You need to REALLY ramp up your cardio. For example, I take a thermogetic (lots to choose from) and run on a treadmill with an incline of 2.0 alternating from speeds 7 to 9.5 at every alternate lap around a virtual Olympic track. 8 laps is a mile. I alternate speed to jolt my metabolism and spike my heart rate thus burning more calories quicker. Plus, this deters my body from plateauing into a long distance runner state. Incorporating alternate sprints in your run is excellent for burning more calories. I now have a solid four-pack showing on my stomach. I have the little bit of "baby fat" left on the lower two abs which is supposed to be a B!tch to get rid of so my diet is very strict. Eating right is key. I eat about 6 hand size portion meals a day spaced 2 hours apart from each other. Complex carbs are consumed with a good protein (egg whites) in the morning and and before 12pm, after 12pm NO MORE CARBS. Remember, you need to create a calorie deficit, meaning, burn more than you consume or the excess calories are stored and converted to fat\future energy. Also, keep sugar to an extreme minimum or get your sugar fix from a little fruit, I use Splenda.

I'm now doing two workouts a day. Extreme cardio at 11am and Poer90X at5pm. And yes, Power90X works, in fact, it can be down-right brutal. Tongue out

and men tend to carry their fat around their middle. For everthing I've read eating clean is a success for helping out your middle, especially getting rid of simple carbs. Since your doing that now, do as suggested, don't get discouraged and keep up the good work. If your still losing, it's bound to come off sooner or later lol!
