Burn 3,500 calories in an day (~1lb fat)
I have found the most effective excercise activity ever.
I started at 189 and made my way down to 146.5, just by changing diet and doing some light exercise. However I found that as I lost the weight, my calorie deficit shrunk considerably as I was packing around less extra baggage - I lost the first 40 lbs in 4 months, the final 6 are proving to be pretty resilient.
In searching for an activity that met my needs (I find working out, running, aerobics or swimming just kind of boring):
- Efficient (high burn rate)
- Fun (Not like a chore)
- Exciting (Adrenaline multiplies your burn rate)
- Dynamic (Couldnt feel like a routine)
What did I find?
Paintball. Playing paintball you burn 7 calories per minute; 420 calories per hour. In a full day of paintball play, 10am - 5pm I burn off about 3,500 calories per week now. The adrenaline makes sure I never get tired and never get bored.
Plus if you have kids 12 or older you can just take them to the field too and make it bonding time, theres other kids there as well as adults and most fields have a viewing area so people can watch you.
The cost of a days play is about $75. Is burning a pound of fat worth $75 to you? Probably if its one of the sticky last ones. Plus its awesome fun.

Paintballing is the first thing I did when I decided to make a real change. It's the sweetest game to play...outdoor summer tracks are so enjoyable too, $20 for a group of 5 of us and around 150 paintballs each = heaven!

I love my taikwando... I hour is like 900 calories... and it is challenging mentally, physically and emotionally... the key is to find something you love... then exercise is a pleasure... you are doing the right thing...

YEAH! I'm still too overweight to play again, but I'm down from 300 to 256 right now in just two months.
My goal is by this Spring to be able to play paint ball again like I did about 5-6 years ago. (Still in my late 20's, so I'm still young :)
It's amazing too, you really can play this game for 8 straight hours on adrenaline alone! What a rush!

Nothing beats Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.. a 2 hour class burns 1500 calories roughly.. Plus you do strengthening excersises like Pushups, Squats and Crunches.. To top it off you're learning the best martial art in the world for self defense.. I play hockey as well and Jiu-Jitsu blows hockey out of the water when it comes to fitness.
150 paintballs?
yikes I would recommend getting at least 500
Next time out I'm thinking of 1,000-2,000. It's always more fun if you're not trying to conserve.

I am trying to maintain my weight. And after a month of training jits 3 days a week, I ended up losing weight....even when I eat like a pig. I really have to down at least 3300-3500 calories a day with jits and lifting weights just to maintain 150 lbs @ 5'8"
