How many calories do i burn going 4 miles??

Hi, i went on the tredmill earlier. I jogged 2 miles and fast walked the other 2. Then when i checked how many calories i burned it said only 290?? I thought the rule of thumb was 100 calories a mile you go? Is this wrong? Ugh, im sooo confused right now! 

So im just wondering does this sound right to you guys? Or is my tredmill saying i burn too much or too little? How many calories do you guys usually burn when you go a mile? Thanks to anyone who replies in advance :]

I'm pretty sure that the amount of calories you burn exercising depends on your weight, the less you weigh being the less you burn. I know I only burn 190 calories when I go for 3 mile walks.

290 is probably right. The 100 calorie per mile thing is the roughtest of the rough estimates and I believe it would only pertain to an average 150 pound man or something. You're not only a girl, you're not only 14, but you're also only 105 pounds. When you add all of those together, it means you don't burn as many calories as other older people. You didn't give specifics on your run, such as how long you were jogging, at what speed, and then how long you walked and at what speed.

I plugged in 105 pounds and 4 miles into this calculator and got a similar number.

Hmm, yeah i guess i just dont burn as much as i thought before haha. Oh well, thanks for the help everyone.

When i plug my (considerable) weight into that, and the distance or speed/duration, i get something like 900 calories burned. That's 268lbs, 3.1mph for 60 minutes. Is that right? Because on here that gives me something like 400 or less, and on the actual treadmill it gives me barely 200.

Not sure which to believe now.

For 40 minutes walking at 4.8km/ph at 268lbs

The other site gives me 638 calories for 40 minutes walking at 4.8km/ph at 268lbs.

The treadmill gave 118 calories

And CC gives me 267 calories

???

I'm 110 pounds and I burn 580 calories in one hour running 7.0mph. 

my dad is 160ish and he runs 6.5mph in an hour and burns about 700 i think....

it depends on your weight

I looked at the running calorie counter site - for some reason, if you do the calories by distance (2 miles - 3.1mph for 40min) you'll get 350 (not to far from the caloriesperhour and cc), but if you do it by speed, you get 640.

It doesn't make a ton of sense, but I'd go with the CC/Caloriesperhour sites, since those are at least consistent. I'd be hesitant to take the 640 because you don't want to overcount your burn.

I have actually been under-estimating my burn. Thus far i am losing 3.5lbs a week with on average 45 minutes @5km a night and a calorie intake of on average 2150 a day. My BMR is 2360.

 

Then you could eat a little more to make sure that your deficit isn't greater than 1000, or keep going and adjust if the weight loss slows down to a crawl. It's up to you how to play with the numbers - the calculators can only be a starting guide - it isn't going to be absolutely accurate for anyone.
