How many times would I have to walk around a city block to equal 1 mile?

Here in Chicago, it's an average of about 8 blocks. It depends where you're from though, I believe. Use mapquest to chart your route and determine distance.

I think I've heard both 12 and 16 depending on the block in Minneapolis, MN.

use mapquest or google maps or gmap-pedometer or map-my-run

This site www.mapmyfitness.com will really help... use the map to figure out how many miles you are walking when walking around your city..

 

I just hop in my car and measure it myself.

In NYC, 20 short blocks or 5-ish long ones.
