Coming back after a short break - ridiculously hard

Quote  |  Reply
Honestly after 1 week at home (easter break) no running and eating & drinking  more than u should have, my first day back & my usual workout (5 miles run) was killing me & so unenjoyable I cut it short! I hate that I gotta get through this tough period before it gets enjoyable again. Maybe this was a bad day will try again tomorrow. Does anyone else find this?

Getting the momentum back after a break is sooooo hard! I agree! Push through it, be a little easier on yourself the first couple of days, and you will be fine.

It's like that for me too. Even after a 3 day break I get tired in half the time. After a couple of days I am usually back to where I was though

i feel ya, i went through the same thing about a month ago. stick with it though! be patient with yourself and if it feels hard remind yourself that your effort will pay off. you will get your momentum back. :)

Definitely!  Hang in there!

Totally true.

A person in motion tends to stay in motion a person on the couch tends to stay on the couch

Fig Newtonian physics at play

Well I am back up to 4 mile runs as of this evening after some tough level 2 30 day shred training at weekend and enjoying it again! Thanks for the pep talks! Feels great to be outside moving!

I usually feel really strong after a week off.  Maybe you were just having a bad day.

ETA: but I don't run so maybe cycling is different.

Coming back to a full collegiate swim workout after a month of easy swimming for injury rehab? I thought I was going to die.

Glad to hear you're back on the horse! Pep talks are the reason I come to the forums. ;)

I have just got back in the saddle after 2 weeks out.  Hard work but have completed 3 runs and now 2 rest days.  Keep going fitness will come back soon.  Have just entered for a Marathon for 2013 so that should keep me on my toes.

You sound like me! I was also home 10 days for Easter. No/limited exercise, and lots of food. I was lucky though, and maintained my weight, so no major harm done. Before my trip home I had settled into a nice routine, where I actually looked forward to my strength training/cardio workout 3-4 times a week. Going to the gym had become as routine as getting up and going to work. I got back a week ago, and I just can't get back into it, it's rough. So instead of picking up where I left off, I'm trying to take it easy a few sessions by reducing the intensity of the workouts. Then I'm not so tired afterwards, and remember why I found working out so enjoyable in the first place.

Ugh, I know what you mean.  I hurt my back and couldn't exercise for about 1.5 weeks, and when I started again I felt like I'd turn back into a total wimp!  But really, after a couple of days and some self-pep talks, I was back up to speed.  Be nice to yourself!  You'll get there!
