Just started CC about two weeks ago, with Diet alone i've lost 7 pounds: I have a wii and finally started to try and utilize it more, after reading alot of blogs and different forum sites I decided to get the EA Active, and I'm pretty sure it almost killed me...
I don't know if I had the controler on right but it wasn't reading my squats right so i was holding them for way longer than probably neccesary, and I'm very sore,
I guess my question is if you have sore muscles should you go ahead and keep working them out? Or wait for them heal a bit before going at it again? I was wondering if i did work them out again sore if it will end up damaging the muscle
ALSO, since I live a pretty sedentary lifestyle would Wii Fit be better to start out with since its kind of a beginners thing..
any advice would be appreciated thanks!
You might want to give yourself a day to rest, but working out (lightly) can often help with sore muscles.
For EA Active, just remember that the Wii doesn't know that it's pushing you too hard - if something is hurting, or it's forcing you to squat for longer than you can, just stop, and angle the controllers so that it lets you get past the exercise without actually doing it. I've had some frustrations trying to get it to read my motions, but you shouldn't let it bully you into pushing yourself too far.
I don't have Wii Fit, so I can't comment on it being for beginners, but for EA, you can pick the easiest level for the 30 day challenge, and that would probably be a good idea, if you didn't already.
Hey there,
Be sure that the Wii leg strap is as high up your leg as possible - this will make it 'read' better for work-outs like squats and lunges. You can add more velcro to the strap to make it bigger if needed (when I started out, I couldn't even reach the strap around my lower thigh...)
I am a huge fan of EA Sports Active. I've been doing it along with dieting and have lost 33ish-lbs since August. If you are finding the work-outs too much, you can make your own work-out (and change the intensity levels from low - med - high)
I found Wii Fit to not give me much of a work-out at all, but maybe you will find it works for you. I just find doing Yoga postures, hip circles etc don't get my heart pumping as much as the activities on EASA.
(Btw, they released EASA "More WorkOuts" in November, not sure if that is the version you have, or if you have the older one. Definitely check out EASA MW though! It's awesome!)
I have been doing Wii Fit Plus for just under 60 days and I agree it doesn't compare to actual stepping exercise, however, the advanced boxing has me lathered in sweat after ten minutes. I've not heard about the EA Active. It sounds wonderful! Keep up the good work and you have been getting good advice. Take it easy and increase your intensity slowly. If you get too sore you may become discouraged. A little discomfort lets you know you've been doing something.
I've been doing WI Fit since I started to change to a healthy lifestyle one year ago. I've lost about 80 to 100 lbs. I know that the WI Fit isn't the source of the weight loss, but what it does for me is to limber me up and I believe it helps with my metabolism. At first I really couldn't do anything else, but I did the WI Fit daily and gradually I was able to do other things such as walk/jog and during the summer cycle for several hours a week. I quit the WI Fit mid-summer to concentrate on more cardio-type activities and started having problems with my back again so I returned to it at the end of the summer and my back has been much better. I purchased the EA Active when it came out. It made me really, really sore at first but in conjunction with the WI Fit, gradually it became another healthy habit. I follow the exercise regiment, to work out two days and then rest one, but I do the WI-Fit daily to keep the muscles limber.
I hope that helps.
Hey! I've been thinking about buying the Wii active more workouts but do I need to have the first one too or is it stand alone?
Frankbair:
I am wanting to get the EA Sports Active also. I've heard that it can be used in conjunction with the Wii Fit Balance Board. I would like to get the More Workouts version. Do I need the EASA basic first or can I just get the EASA More Workouts?
I read online the more workouts doesn't come with the accesories kit so you'd either have to buy it separate or get the first one too.
I use the wii active and I don't have wii fit (the balance board). It still works wonderfully and then if I ever get the fit I can change my settings. I have used the wii fit before and I will definately say that the active is MUCH more of a workout. It's fast 20-30 minutes but really gets my heart pumping and has really benefited my weight loss/healthy lifestyle goals. Start off on the easy setting and it will tell you to take a break every two days and rest. The trainer is great to get you motivated. It is difficult when it doesn't read your movements, but most of the time I am holding the controllers wrong and if I re-watch the training video, I get it. I have been using it for almost 3 months now and I am still getting a great work out with it!
I have had the Wii Fit for a year now and got the EA Active this fall. I found with the Fit I wasn't getting an aerobic workout. I know that it is largely my fault for not pushing myself more but that is me. If I had a great workout ethic I probably wouldn't have let myself get in this shape. I do love some of the balancing games and the hula hoop and running do give me a workout. Problem was, it was taking too long between each activity and too easy to just pick out the fun stuff.
Now I use the Wii Fit to track my wight and test me. Then I do the Active 30 day challenge. I have never managed to complete it yet but I am really hoping this is a new year and a new me. I feel in the right place mentally so fingers crossed. I have completed the first week of the challenge. I definately work up a sweat and am challenged. Love getting the trophies and making sure that I exceed the expected calorie burn. If I still have the energy after this, I will go back to the Wii Fit and do some more games. I got the newer Active for my DD for Xmas. I haven't seen it yet to see how different it is since I want to finish the Challenge first.
Keep your fingers crossed for me that this time sticks.
I got the Wii Active on 12/31 and have been using it from day 1. I found it easy to set up and I went for the 30 day challenge at the lowest level, since I had been lazy. I work out 2 days and rest for 1. I had a little problem with the squats once, but once I moved the thigh strap with the Nunchuck facing more towards the front, I had no other issues. I love that it records my calories burned as I am burning them.
On my rest days I work out with the Wii Sports with boxing, tennis and bowling. Yesterday I actually ran about a 1/4 of mile to the mailboxes, I have not ran (except on the Wii Active) for years!
Since I started using the Wii Active I have lost 2.3 lbs.
Great results. Congrats on taking a run to the mailbox too.
Thanks, I am actually thinking of getting up 20 minutes early to do a work out in the morning before work and then I can do another when I get home at my usual time. I pretty excited about making my life better.
That is awesome. Today is my rest day in the Challenge so I will stick to the treadmill. I will need to practice my tennis skills cuz I really stunk at that lol. Did better with the beginer basketball, since you didn't really have to aim or time it. I am no athlete so this is great for me. I am off work this week, but will have to come up with a new plan to fit all this in during my work days starting next week.
Great job on cutting back on the smoking at the same time!!!!
For those of you who use the Wii Fit and the EA Sports Active...how do you account for the exercise you do on each? Do you just "re-do" the body test on the Wii Fit each day? I have ordered the EA Sports Active, but have not received it yet, but didn't know exactly how to use both programs at the same time. Any suggestions?
