When to eat after exercising?
from ivillage.com
"Every responsible source in bodybuilding and athletics recommends eating after a workout, and preferably within 45 minutes (maybe up to 60) after working out. This period, known as the golden hour, is when the muscles absorb the most nutrients and when glycogen, an energy reserve in your muscles, is replaced most efficiently."
from mayoclinic.com"To help your muscles recover and to replace their glycogen stores, eat a meal that contains both protein and carbohydrates within two hours of your exercise session if possible. If you aren't hungry after your workout, drink juice or a sports drink to provide replenishing carbohydrates."
"Good post-workout food choices include:
- Yogurt and fruit
- Peanut butter or meat sandwich
- String cheese and crackers
- Nuts and dried fruit
- A regular meal with meat, starch, and cooked vegetable or salad"

"now I have started to do the machines (although i think doing machines is painfully boring)"
Maybe some of the posters on the Fitness Board can suggest some less-boring strength-training routines. It's great that you have taken it up; but based on what I have observed in many others and myself, most people who do not enjoy any aspect of the lifting/conditioning regimen they have chosen usually quit doing it.
Best of luck!
