Energy in the morning compared to night

Quote  |  Reply

During the evening, I can run and run and run without getting out of breath or tired, but due to a change in schedule I need to start running in the morning. I struggle the entire time, I have no energy at all.

I get enough sleep. I drink a good amount of water before setting out. I eat a little something so I can (attempt) to get some energy. I take an energy tablet. Today I tried waiting an hour so my body would have more time to wake up, but nothing's making a difference. When I go at night I can run and run and run. Anyone know what I can do? Are my natural energy levels just low in the morning? Can I train my body to get use to running in the morning rather than evening?

I experience the EXACT same problem. My favorite time to run is the evening and I generally get a good quality run in, however there are times of the week that the morning seems to just work better.

What I try to do is 2 fold and one is contrary to weight loss but helps me.

1. Eat late dinner the night before or even get up at like 3 am and get a carb heavy snack.

2.  Wake up and shower prior to running it may really help wake you the rest of the way up.

Yes it seems counter productive and goes against your running time to shower before and after a shower but it really helps me.  Also I would recommend bringing a gel along if you are going to do a long run in the morning.

The other thing I've done is to learn that sometimes my morning post fasted run is not going to be nearly as quality or enjoyable as my evening runs however I seem to benefit more from these morning crappy runs than I give myself credit for.  At the end of the day all that really matters is weekly milage.
