How to find calories burned when running/walking?

Quote  |  Reply
I usually run/walk a mile a day. I'm trying to find out how many calories I burn while doing it. So what things do I need to get? Do I need to find how long I run and walk? Or what? Thanks

Total Calorie burn running = miles*weight*.75

Total calorie burn walking = miles*weight*.53

Burn adjusted for BMR running= miles*.63*weight

Burn adjusted for BMR walking=miles*.3*weight

You need your time taken and distance covered :that will give you your pace.

And your current weight.

Bunches of calculators here.

Go to logging Activities

Type in Walk  or run then you need to know how much time and ideally the speed  at which you were walking on running but mot important the amount of time. You can guess speed

It will allow you to see how many calories you burned

I use Polar HR monitor that gives pretty accurate calorie burn information as well

Do you have a heart rate monitor?  Its key in figuring out if you are working hard enough to burn calories.  Below is a link to a heart rate chart

Once you know your heart rate, below is a formula to figure out how many calories you burned.

Or you can get a good heart rate monitor that has the calories burned.  Mine is about 10 years old and doesnt have calories on it.
