I gained 5 lbs, but I look better to me?
Hi, normally I workout at high intensity, heavy lifting. I usually weigh about 134 to 135 and I'm 5'9. Lately I lowered my intensity, not the amount of weight I lift, just the amount of days I lift. Now that said, I have troubles with my diet, I eat too much and then I feel gross and blah blah. So I have been good for about three days, meaning no random binges. In the mirror today, I thought I looked rather thin or lean I guess ud say for the amount of food I had been eating every night like 3 days ago. My legs look chunky, but whatevs. Anywho, when I hopped on the scale, I was 140/ 141. Does that mean it's muscle or water retention? Or are my legs really packing on that much fat? I swear I bloat in my tummy, but fat only stores on my thighs and calves (calfs/SP?) I am not complaining just wondering if sum1 more knowledgable would help me out in understanding this ...
I've got a couple questions to ask.
1. What do you consider to be overeating? You'll only gain a pound of fat if you eat 3500 excess calories.
2. Do you workout your legs or just your upper body. A thought I had was that you may not be training your legs at much as your upper body, making the legs look more flabby since they aren't as muscular in comparison.
Sounds like you're in pretty good shape though :)
I wouldnt consider anything on me flabby, I mean to say that u can see cellulite a lil better and pudge if Ive binged lately. I dunno how many calories, could be hundreds, could be thousands...?
I kinda want to know what people think, too. I think I look a little thinner as well, but I just upped my calories about a month ago by about 600 - from 800 (!!! that was too little! I was maintaining on that!) and the scale has gone up as well - but I think my shoulders and arms look a little slimmer?
I want to say it's water retention, but at the same time hte increase on the scale is about 2.5lbs. which makes me think it's actually fat. (2.5 pounds over four weeks seems about right for actual weight gain...) - but like you, I also think I look a bit smaller!
Could it be muscle? I've been doing a lot more walking, too, and my bottom looks a bit more "lifted" (lol) - but I wouldn't think walking really builds muscle... :/
u should know 800 calories is considered semi-anorexic, and 1400 is not a maintainence caloric intake, it's for weight loss, if u r gaining on that it's because ure body NEEDS those calories, badly. You were maintaining ur weight on 800 calories cuz it was being starved and holding onto every little nutrient u fed it. 1800 is the lowest u should be maintaining on, esp. if you're young. I eat at least 1800 calories in a day and I usually don't gain anything. If I eat 3000 calories I might gain some weight. eating so little just slows down ur metabolism, so if u ever wanted to eat like a normal human being, ud end up gaining weight due to that. Please eat more food.
Eating way too little will definitely decrease your metabolsim. You are active, female and very very tall. You can definitely be at 145 and a healthy weight (with breathing room still up from that). You should be sure to keep your calories high to not hurt your metabolism. At your height, 145 is not even overweight but normal (and again a bit higher than that is still normal).

actualy(and dont hate me for saying this) but the lowest ur caloric intake should be is about 1200.
Actually I would never hate anyone for saying something, buuuuut I said for Maintaining weight, losing weight it'd be 1200:) Don't hate, educate!

I lose weight on 1800 calorie a day diet. I have super fast motabolism. I have read no less than 1200 also and 1800 to maintain. for me to maintain is 2100 calories a day.
btw....you and I look very similar (your profile pic) and I am 130 lbs at 5'8".
Don't listen to the scale! :) It is a silly indicator of what could really be happening. If you feel better about yourself and feel you look better then that is what you should take to heart. You look great in your profile pic and from the pic I would first say it is muscle gain over fat :)
