ugh i have the SAME problems as you.

1) my ear holes ARE unusually small, so the headphones that come with generic mp3 players and iPods, will NOT fit into my ears.

2) the earphones i have now constantly fall out when i run or anything. annoying!

sometime this week i'm going shopping for new headphones and my mom's kinda iffy with money so she won't let me get anything too expensive. when i get them i'll post back and tell you the brand, where i got them and the price if you like. :)

I can't use ear buds or the back-of-the-head kind at all.  I have to get old school headphones.  Since my son broke my Sony noise cancellers, I've been using my husband's Skullcandy.

These aren't the exact kind and I don't think (hope) that he didn't pay that much for them.  But they stay on my head and hug my ears no matter what.

I've never been able to get earbuds to fit into my ears... I use the clip-over-the-ears kind and they're good for walking, but they tend to bounce loose if you get too active (they fell off halfway through my jog today!) The ones that actually go over the top of your head (or around the back) stay put better but I don't like them for exercising outside - I only use one earpiece so that I can hear the traffic noises better and be more aware of what's going on around me.

I have some really good ones that are foamy on the ends, so you squish them, put them in your ears and they expand to fit the size of your ears. I love them... but, I don't know the name of them. They sort of look like ear plugs with wires.
I now use some sennheiser MX-75 twist-to-fit earphones. The sound quality is very good, and you can't hear the cord every time it bounces against your shirt like you can with the in-canal headphones (this is the problem that I had with the skullcandy ones. That and one side stopped working after 3 months). The only problem is they only come in bright green, but other than that, they're great, and they have a little flap that helps you to wedge it into your ear to stay put while running/bouncing/whatever.

I've never really been picky about earbuds, but I have had the "falling out" problem. I just bought a sony walkman mp3 player and it came with AWESOME buds. They include three sizes of rubber buds that fit into the ear drum for snuggness. At first I thought they'd feel really weird, but I love them. They block out a lot of the background noise and the sound quality is amazing. I'm not sure if they are the usual pair sold with the player or if they were part of a promotion at the time. I love them AND they stay put even during an aggressive workout.

has anyone tried this style? they look like they'd stay put and are lightweight, but they look like they might be painful or something!

Just a note about the ipod ones:  I used to always have the same problem.  Just, in general, too (not just exercising)... They'd fall out, or hurt, or just not fit right.  But after awhile, I don't know what happened, but now they work great!  Maybe my ears got used to them.  I don't know.  Now they never fall out.  Weeeeiiiird...

I borrowed my sister's Bose in-ear headphones for my last race thinking they'd be perfect for not falling out.  They even have 2 or 3 different sizes of attachment thingies so you can pick the one that fits your ear best.  However, I do NOT recommend them because they still fell out while I was running, and the cord is really long and heavy and rubbery, so it bounced around like crazy and kept catching on my shirt.  So even though they sound great being Bose and all, they are not good for exercise.

ooh, thanks!  i am glad to find that out before spending $100.  i am thinking maybe the ones with the headband are best, despite looking a little dorkier...

I checked out the link you put up for they Sony pair, and then found the link closest to what mine look like. They seem to be pretty similar.

I love them, no bouncy issues, and you can choose s,m,l - all sizes come with the earphones, so you can experiment with what feels / works best for you.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

My favorite set are the "clip around the ear style" like this...

They seem a little pricey here but they are offered ALOT on woot.com usually in sets of 2 (I paid 29.99 for 2 sets one white and one black) but I think they are worth 31 bucks alone.

I will second this.  The style that comes with the Sony players is great.  The rubber pieces are soft and comfortable but they stay put well and seem to have some noise-canceling effects.  I love them.

I love the silicone earbuds that came with my RCA Opal Mp3 player.  THey have 3 or 4 sets of different buds, and best part is, they sound like headphones that should cost twice what the player and everything cost.

Just get a pair that have a piece that wraps around your ear. Those won't slip out.

I had the same problem with my ipod headphones. I realized that as i was running my armband would get caught on the wire, so now since i wear a short sleeve shirt when i run (unless its freezing) i run the headphones inside my shirt and pop them up through the neck hole at the back side of my head and stick them in. Now i have no problems.

I had some that wrapped around my ear and they came loose pretty often, if you do get ear wraps, make sure they are the ear buds that wrap around your ear instead of something that just sits on the outside of the ear.

I swear by V-Modas, more specifically Vibe Duo. Execellent sound and it has never fallen off or gotten loose when I'm on the treadmill. Seriously, at first I was skeptical about these since I've never heard of them, but once I tried them, WHOA I couldn't go back to Sony and my favorite Bose came in second! XD

Agree with everyone else about the iPod headphones. Lousy when it comes to staying in the ears. Only good thing going for them is their color :))

wow, i have the exact same problem.  i think our ear holes are just too small.  i have found 2 solutions but i did invest some money because i think it is worth it.  i got the big professional ones and i love it! and then i got some that wrap behind the ear and keep the buds in place without actually having to shove them into your ear.

I had the same problem, while running. So,I bought the ones who go around the ears for 10 euros. It makes jogging so much easier.

These look awful I know, but I swear they are great,  the adjustable part makes them fit to any ear.  I can't wear anything else during jogging.  I have a really small ear so ear buds hurt and don't stay in, these could go in like earbuds but I wear them so they rest over not in my ear.

They're by Phillips.
