How many hours per week do you workout?

I recently read an article that states that if you are exercising more than 7-8 hours per week, you could be suffering from exercise addiction and be doing more harm than good to your body. How many hours are you logging per week for exercise?

Per week, I get around 4 1/2 - 5 hours of exercise. Three hours on weight lifting (60 min x 3 times a week), and one hour forty minutes of cardio (three 20 min SS sessions after lifting and two 20 min HIIT sessions on non lifting days). I make sure to take 2 days off per week where I do no exercise at all. My off days are Tues and Sun.

I think it works great...seeing my weight and health is good.  I feel fantastic...I am just thinking am I spending enough time at it?

hmmm about 8 to 10 hours.  oh well... im eatin enough!

i do cross fit training so each work out lasts for a max of 40 mins really. if i do cardio nearly an hour.. so i'm on about 4-5 hours really..

How long you train for really has little correlation to your results. Someone doing 20 mins of HIIT might see more fat loss than someone plodding on a treadmill for twice that time, for instance.

Exercise Bulemia is a serious condition - this is those people who exercise to work off a binge or exercise so they can binge later.  An addiction to exercise hmmm I can think of worse things to be addicted to!!!

There is a test you can do to see if you are "overtraining"  take your pulse first thing when you wake up-- don't "get up" stay lying down and if you turned off your alarm wait a minute or 2 then take your pulse for the full one minute -- don't short change doing the 10 second thing but full minute then sit up on edge of bed take your pulse again for the full minute if this pulse rate is 5 bpm over the lying pulse then you are overtraining and need to take a day off.  

I used to work out about 14 hours a week but now its averages about 6.  I worked out so much before because I had insomnia and would wake up at 4:30 and nothing else better to do than walk or elliptical.  

 

unfortunately someone like me falls into that "bad" category...

 

regularly...I workout about 12 hours a week, but since I'm preparing for a fight... for the next 5-6 months...I train about 16-20 hours a week...sometimes pulling double sessions in one day....and this is not just lifting...Thousand kicks with each leg...thousand punches with each fist...hundreds of crunches and kettlebell drills...resistance training...and bone conditioning.

Some of my neighbors and I are going to stage an intervention with our mailman, he spends 6-8 hours per day exercising.

 

eddiepotter makes a good point -- athletes train for hours-.

I'm just curious what magazine had that article in it??? 

Also recently the American Medical Association updated their recommendations for exercise and the overweight people.  While everyone should do 30 minutes of moderate exercise everyday persons who are overweight need to do 90 - thats 10.5 hrs a week- also this is moderate exercise not just "fat burning zone" but the zone above that where your heart is beating in the 70- 80% zone. 

 

i don't know ANY pro athlete that does less than 14 hours per week of training.  not that it's a time thing, but it just takes that long to complete certain things.  All the pro athletes i know work hard, and benefit from it.

I workout 6-7 hours per week.  Hard to find the time w/ baby, full-time job and a husband!!!!  There aren't enough hours in the day!

Pfft that's more than most of my single friend work out, or those with older kids.

I work out on avererage around 8 hours a week. Around 5 hours a week in the gym doing cardio/wightlifting, a 3 hour baseball game on sundays, and a 1 hour game of slowpitch softball on tuesdays.

 Holy Crap! :0 Is that consecutively or 3 in the AM and 3 in the evening?

Even when I'm training, I don't wkout that much per day nor would I..even if I did have the time. My max wrkout hrs av 4 hrs a day and that is in peak training.  I can't imagine 8 hrs a day...hope he doesn't have a family/friends bc if he does, he is surely neglecting them! That's insane!!!

 Well, there's a half hour lunch break in the middle of it, but it's pretty much consecutively, 10am - 4:30pm unless he's got some overtime then it could go all the way to 6:30pm.
