Jumping rope?

Quote  |  Reply

Okay, so I am working on gaining weight, but the weight I've been gaining has been going to my hips and stomach :( I was wondering if jumping rope would increase my fat burn a significant amount? I hear it works, but my question is, is it more effective than running? :) Thank you

Per minute probably, but it's hard to do for a long time, unless you're really good.

So, over the past two days I have added a good 6 minute jump rope session, and honestly feel great about it!!! It's been working both my legs and arms and I definitely feel good about it.

I agree... Jumping rope is great for burning fat, but keeping it up for longer than 10 minutes is completely exhausting!

If you're trying to gain weight, why are you also trying to burn fat?

I was wondering about this also.  I think it's a problem because she's really sabotaging her recovery.

^Agreed.

OP, when you gain weight, some of it WILL be fat no matter what you do. Your body needs some fat on it. Honestly, you probably shouldn't be exercising right now until you hit a healthy weight.

Are you eating more than 1,300 calories a day now? And are you still the same weight you were last week? If so, that's scarily low.

It sounds like you still have some major ED thoughts and behaviors that need worked on, hopefully with the help of a professional.

Believe it or not, I am putting on the pounds. :P Fat is a big role in my diet, but also exercise. I am beginning to enjoy food again (healthy foods of couse.) But, I have drastically changed my diet over the past two weeks. breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, and of course my giant fruit platter at the end of the night. I have gained a good 3 lbs over the past two weeks. Even with exercise.

I jump rope 30 minutes straight everyday and find it easier than running.

I'm a distance runner, but a couple of days ago I switched it up and jumped rope for 40 minutes instead. It felt really good while I was jumping.... but afterwards the whole backside of my legs ached. They still hurt... Like, really. It hurt to walk the day afterwards. If you want to start jumping rope on a regular basis, I suggest you ease into it... not like I did...

Wow! 40 minutes! That's great!

I've just been doing 5-6 minutes straight per day. The first two days my legs were a little achey, but that wore off.

Jenny- That's good to hear that the 'acheyness' wore off. I'm thinking about easing myself into it gradually. Maybe 5-10 minutes occasionally when I feel like it.

Something I found was fun was putting the rope down and doing some jumping jacks in between 'sets.' Or maybe tossing in a few burpees. The more random the better!

This may sound dumb, but what exactly are burpees? I've heard of them, I just don't know exactly what they are. I guess I should look them up! :)

I've seen your pictures. You don't need to gain weight.  You are perfect.

If I'm not mistaken burpees are when you do a push up, then get on your feet and do a jump squat, then a push up, then repeat.

At least that's what I call a burpee.

Burpee= unpleasant noise and everyone looks at you funny

Yeah, I know, I'm so punny...

jumping rope is one of the BEST ways to get lean.  not sure if i'd be doin it to gain muscle, but it'll sure get ya toned!!

Believe it or not, I am underweight. Like at least 5-10 lbs underweight ha. I promise... I do need to gain weight haha. I lost 40 lbs over 2 years (if you could imagine that.)

Thank you for all your guys' help!

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
