Knee pain!!!!!!!!

Quote  |  Reply

I workout 5 times a week Here's what I do

30 minutes on the treadmill speed only 3.5 max. No incline because I have knee pain.

30 minutes -elliptical trainer

I burn about 400 calories each time.

I am experiencing terrible knee pain these past few days. I don't know what to do... I love working out, my body loves it but my knees are too weak.

My stats are

Starting weight : 181

Height: 5"2

Current weight : 167.

It's not really a  strenuous workout. Why do I feel so miserable then??

Any suggestions for an alternate workout , or anything that will make me feel better but be able to exercise.

I also have knee pain after a while on the treadmill and my ankles swell up too.

I have found the elliptical machine to be the best option for me in terms of cardio. It is low impact and it takes A LOT longer for my knee to start to hurt. Though, I will say, I have noticed that there are different types of elliptical machines - some I don't feel comfortable on and they give me joint pain while others I could stay on while I sleep (a little exaggeration, but you get the idea).

Are you working out at a gym?

If you can, try to do more on the elliptical and not as much on the treadmill. Or if there is another treadmill brand - give that a try. Some treadmills have more of a "give" or "bounce" in them that may reduce impact pain.

Also, have you tried biking? My mom had her knee replaced 1.5 yrs ago (she is very overweight and had no cartilage left) and was been using a recumbent bike for therapy. Because of her excess weight she had trouble using the treadmill in our house and the Gazelle. Swimming might be a good option too -- if a pool is available.

Maybe consider wearing a knee brace if it is an issue of support. There are ones you can pull up over your leg and ones you can Velcro on.
