I have knee pain but I only get it after 1)biking 2)rowing or 3)lunges. Wondering if anyone knows what could be causing it and if there was something I could do to improve this because I really love biking and rowing, lol lunges I could do without but anyway any advice?
My suggestions would be to:
1. Check that your form is correct (ie don't let your knee go past your toes during lunges, etc.)
2. Make sure that your bike/exercise equipment is adjusted properly to your body size. If your bike seat is too low, for instance, this could make your knees bent too much while you pedal.
3. Make sure you do lots of stretching everyday, especially after exercise.
4. If pain persists, see a doctor. (I went and saw a podiatrist because of my knee pain and got orthotics for my shoes.)
Good luck!
Though some educated guesses can be made: think about strengthening your quads more - patellofemoral syndrome can develop from a variety of causes but one of the more common is a strength imbalance pulling your patella off track.
I recommend squatting to develop quad strength if your knees can take it - lunging is actually harder on the knees than full squats done correctly so you shouldn't have much trouble there.
But it's only one of several possible causes so instead of taking risks with your joint health, see a doctor.
Thanks for the feedback, I will look into this......yeah I noticed I dont have any problem with squats, thanks for the tips and I will make an appointment with the dr.
I also have knee pain with lunges but not squats. At first the cycling also bothered me but with "pushing" thru it my knee has loosened up and I have built strnght in them. If you ar doing any cardio make sure your shoes are suitable. It could be showing up somewhere else even if it is not bothering you during cardio training.
There's pain, and then there's pain.
Pain = Oh, I didn't know I had a muscle there. It sure didn't like that exercise I did yesterday. I feel like I've been hit by a truck. Worse the second day, better the third, gone the fourth (or so.)
That's "good" pain -- it means you're stretching long-too-tight muscles. Use cold on them after the new exercise. As you get stronger, better, you could actually find yourself saying "Oh, that hurts so good."
Pain = Owww! That stings/burns/radiates/pulses/cuts every time I do this. Not getting better after a few days. I never noticed a bump there before.
That's "bad" pain. These kinds of pain are not the body just grumbling that it has to work, for a change. These kinds of pain meant something is wrong. If you feel heat from it, or see red or puffiness, use cold packs (frozen vegetables work great) and hie thee to a doctor.
If in doubt, see your doc.
its the "i cant walk right for a couple days afterward pain" its really annoying because I love cycling and rowing......I think maybe im bending my knee wrong but im going to check it out with the dr next time i go, thanks to everyone on cc for the great advice and support
Fancy,
If you're still experiencing this pain, I'd call and make the appointment with your doctor, unless you already have one scheduled.
If your current exercise routine is the cause of this, you need to know how to adjust before you do serious harm to yourself.
Keep us posted, 'kay?
