Hello everyone,

I recently started Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred and was wondering what one does after the program is over? Do I do it again? Try one of her other programs? I realize I need to vary my routine to keep from plateauing, so maybe a few weeks of Shred-It With Weights?

I'm only on Day 5, but I really like 30 Day Shred so far. Sure, I've called Jillian some horrible things here and there. But I do it with love. I'm already down 4.4 lbs. So apparently this "working out" and "eating right" thing isn't total nonsense.

Bingo!

The reason why Shred works so well is because she combines cardio and strength training. Eventually, your endurance will increase to the point where 30DS will be easy. Maybe not easy, but no longer challenging. When you reach that point, it's really up to you what you do. Whatever you choose, it should consist of strength training AND cardio, not just cardio.

If you like 30DS, you should check out Biggest Loser Cardio Max and Power Sculp (strength). They are very similar to 30DS in that they have three different levels of difficulty.

No More Trouble Zones is another good one!  Just to add on to what bierorama said.  :)

I know plenty of people who've done 30DS, then redid it with higher weights.  Or they fuond another circuit DVD they liked and continued with that, then returned to 30DS later.

Today = my first day of 30DS.  I've started it before, never finished.  This time?  I'm doing it, all the way!

Good luck!

i dont understand how people swear by this dvd, i've done it so many times and i barely break a sweat, even if i use heavier weights. well whatever works for you go for it. i wish i could see results like 4 lbs is AMAZING!

agreed with poster above, No more Trouble Zones is my fave JM dvd and I continue to use it everyday. i initially saw great results in my chest and arms from this dvd and i used to be really flabby. after you do 30 days of the shred, i highly recommend NMTZ, it is worth it!

I never actually ended up finishing the 30DS program (as prescribed) as I found doing the same thing every day to be extremely hard on the body.  I loved the workout, but couldn't keep doing the same thing again and again, so I switched to doing a mix of wii Fit, Biggest Loser wii, 30DS and Biggest Loser Cardio Max, which worked for a while, but what I really craved was structure - so I switched to ChaLEAN Extreme

It's a program designed to help you build muscle to burn fat, and it WORKS Smile  The program takes three months to complete, and is broken down into three 30 day phases.  In each phase, you have three different weight circuits which you do each week, along with one day of cardio and abs, and one day of cardio and stretching/yoga.  It's great because you do something different every day, and you get leaner and smaller as you go!  I love it so much I reccomend it to everyone who talks to me about weight loss, and have gotten about eight people hooked on it to date Wink  You can get the program from Beachbody, and I reccomend you sign up first and buy it through a coach.  That way it's not only the company benefiting (my coach is MCDerin, and she's awesome).

Good luck making your choice!  In the end, the best workout is the one that works for you Smile

chubbychickie, i just received my chalean extreme in the mail a few days ago, i tried the first work out, and didn't like it. but i heard EVERYONE raving about these dvds so I will still continue to try it....

i don't have heavy weights however, i have 3,5, and 8... and the modifier in the video uses 10!! i am willing to buy the heavier weights in order to get results from this video, but i dont understand how i can really ever use 20 lbs it seems so extreme for girls, but whatever. what i want to know is will this program really work for me? i didn't even sweat during the first work out, and it was soooo slow paced, almost too easy for me. then again i am used to circuit training dvds and cardio dvds.

nevertheless, i already ordered Turbofire, im a fitness dvd fanatic and i just want to see real results from all these people that SWEAR by chalean's programs.

Hi Erin, sorry to hear you weren't a big fan of the first workout!  The key to really enjoying (and getting a good workout out of) ChaLEAN is lifting heavy enough weights to reach failure.  I have adjustable dumbbells (Power Blocks) which go from 5-50lbs - I thought I was being silly and wasting my money buying the 5-50s instead of 5-25s, but in the Push Phase this rotation, I'm using 40s for some of my lower body work - that's right, 40s! One in each hand! (Sorry, I'm super excited about it Wink)  The weight circuits move slowly because if you're lifting heavy enough weights, moving slowly will give you the best possible workout for your muscles - lifting heavy, I'm always DRENCHED in sweat by the time I finish.  Oh, and the cardio workouts and ab workout are faster paced, if you need something to look forward to Wink

It definitely takes some adjustment switching from Circuit Training to ChaLEAN, but if you lift heavy enough and really push your limits, you will see great results!  If you need some visuals, check this out (scroll down to see results and such).  I've been working at it (with some breaks and a re-start) since April, and still love the variety in the workouts, and how awesomely strong the weight circuits make me feel!  Oh, and I picked up Turbo Fire too (fun!) and will be doing the ChaLEAN/Turbo Fire combo when I finish this rotation of ChaLEAN! Laughing

Good luck, I hope you love it!

Wow!!!! You got amazing results!!! I gotta go out and get heavier weights now!! I can't wait to do this!

Wow ! Just had a look at your progress and it very clearly WORKS! Well done and all the best with the rest. Definite inspires me to try the same ;-)

I got 4 other workout DVDs to give me some variety from 30DS, and the one I like best is Men’s Health: The Belly Off! Workout. It’s a full-body body-weight workout combining strength and cardio. All the equipment you need is a bench (or chair); a mat might be nice to have, too. It has different sections, and you can select only some of them for a shorter workout, or all of them for a longer one. Oh, and you don’t have to be a man to do the workout. I’m not.

The 30 Day Shred rocked my world, I took measurements day one, and again on day 30 and holy moly! I liked the workout so much I was dreading the 30th day wondering what I would do after.

I couldn't decide right off the bat, so I got heavier weights and started all over again. More than halfway through the second time around, I started to crave a bit more variety, and think I was ready for a new challenge.

I'm not ready to leave Jillian Michaels though, because 30 Day Shred toned me up for a vacation where I was in my bikini the entire time. I have NEVER owned a bikini in my life.

So, I'll be starting Jillian's Banish Fat Boost Metabolism, and her No More Trouble Zones. I'll also be getting PX90. All three of these workouts have great reviews. Don't worry, Jillian has lots of dvds (coming out with a 6 week 6 pack at the end of this month!) and there are even more intense circuit training you can always build up to.

Have fun!

If you liked 30DS, you're going to love BFBM!

Yay! I'm excited to hear that! I can't wait to get them in the mail and start!

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
