Low Fat Chocolate Milk - The natural energy drink
Hey guys, just thought I'd share this little tip I learned yesterday from a nutritionist doctor lady...she has a show on itunes and I downloaded her and boy she has a TON of great tips for weight loss, eating healthy, adding "power foods" to your diet, etc. Her name is Dr. Susan Mitchell if you want to check her out on Itunes. I downloaded all her podcasts and have been ravenously listening to her.
Anyway, she was talking about Energy Drinks, Energy Bars, etc. and commenting that she didn't really like them because they have ALL SORTS of chemicals in them that the FDA is still really not sure how they work in the body. For example, she mentioned the drinks have large amounts of caffine as well as some other herbs in them, and scientists think that these two ingredients combine inside your body to double or triple the effects of the caffine - which is why you get a huge boost. But this is also not good for your heart and other organs - and because some of these drinks don't have to meet FDA requirements - nutritionists just don't know what kind of damage the stuff could be doing.
She then started talking about Low Fat Chocolate Milk. She mentioned a study at the University of Texas Health Science Center where athletes drank low fat chocolate milk after a work out and got a BETTER physical boost than with gatorade, energy drinks, and energy bars. I'm not going to go into why this is so, if you want to know, download the podcast, but basically the chocolate part is really good for women (it has antioxidants in it) and the milk part is great for protein and energy. You're also getting a little caffine and everything in it is natural - not artificial.
So, next time you're gonna chug that energy drink, energy bar, or jug of gatorade, try some low fat chocolate milk. I have it on my shopping list to check it out.

yea. thanks for the post. i think this is right. only i do it with yogurt. i whip together a cup of yogurt with some cocoa and sweetner. calcium, a caffine boost, and the great antioxidants. its also like a great desert... TRY IT!
After your workout you want to get a blend of carbs:proteins that's 4:1... Chocolate milk comes with that exact ratio and is praised as being the best thing you can drink after you lift weights...
What about drinking it with breakfast? Or will you only benifit from it after a workout?
Yup, you can drink it with breakfast and still get a boost, and the antioxidants are great for you as a woman, but make sure you're drinking counting it as part of your calories.
I have not drank milk in at least 10 years with the exception of one time! I was lactose intollerant, but something happened and I don't think I am anymore cause my niece handed me a huge glass of milk one day when I was choking on a extra big bit of food I took. And I had no problem after I drank the whole glass. So mabey now would be a good time to start drink chocolate milk to get some nutrients my body has missed out on.
I HATE regular milk...I have to disguise it. But I love chocolate milk for some reason, so I'm going to incorporate this into my diet daily, especially after working out.
It's a perfect solution for me!
