Nike+ Accuracy with Treadmills
Hey everyone. I have a questions regarding the accuracy of the iPod/Nike+ system when running on treadmills. Yesterday I ran on one specific type of treadmill for an hour and my Nike+ gave me a pretty accurate/comparable distance to the treadmill's distance; however, today I ran on a different treadmill and my Nike+ distance was much less than the treadmill distance (by like .8). Can someone explain why this might be?
I wouldn't expect a treadmill to very accurate in terms of distance, or speed for that matter, but that's just me. On the other hand, I don't know what a Nike + is so I don't have an opinion on whether or not it would likely be accurate.
I trust my Nike+ readings over the treadmill. Especially because the treadmill I use calculates your calories burned even though you don't enter in your weight into it. Yesterday when I ran 4.5 miles the treadmill said I burned 1000 calories!!! So wrong! My pace according to the Nike+ is also much more accurate than the treadmill, it compares very well to my outdoor pace, while the treadmill reading is much slower (by almost a minute at times).

Because Nike is an evil corporation, hell bent on destroying your body and turning you into a confused, atrophied, blob.
Once you've calibrated your Nike+ it should be more accurate than treadmills. Treadmills are only as accurate as the length of time since their last calibration. Being mechanical devices they wear and the readings will change get out of calibration.
That said, I had to return my Nike+ because it wouldn't recognize my stride at all. I'm a slow, old fart, runner and it just didn't recognize any movement I made whether fast walking or running/jogging.
