If people don't nit pick routines and ideas posted, how are the people who read these forums supposed to figure out if the ideas posted are right for them?

By trying them.  Doh!  Nitpicking them serves no one but the ego of the person who's nitpicking.  I need a Homer Simpson smiley...lmao.

You're right, nit picking serves not purpose.  Disagreeing with something and providing evidence to back up your opinion definatly doesn't do anything to provide additional information to someone trying to make up their mind, all it does is stroke my ego.

Maybe I'll take your advice and try every routine anyone ever suggests.  I want to run an IronMan triathlon and I need a training plan, when I look around on the internet and found 3 training plans:

1) Smoke lots of crack-cocaine and play my WII for 6 hours per day

2) Put on a pair of swimming goggles and bang my head into a brick wall as hard as I can.

3) spend lots of time swimming/biking/running in a planned logical progression to build endurance.

Some people said that the first 2 weren't good plans and provided evidence for their claims, but they are just negative nit-pickers who want to stroke their own egos, and everyone is different so how do they know that smoking crack won't make me a world-class endurance athlete?  I'm starting with plan #1 and seeing if it works.

"... so how do they know that smoking crack won't make me a world-class endurance athlete?  I'm starting with plan #1 and seeing if it works."

It may not make you a world class athlete but at least you'll have the lifestyle of one.

good to see you responding by feeling/thinking i was talking about you....so yes, you nitpicked it with negativity "to make it appear wrong" - so much so that the original poster removed his original post. you were not alone, as its always a collective effort in the fitness forum. i would elaborate but i think enough people have spoken out so far to support that general idea.

if that was not your intent....maybe next time, post with a positive spin. i know i for one would have appreciated seeing that.

so....your posts came off as negative and disagreeable in this thread. you typically have good advice, even with very black and white comments at times, and you are usually the first to swoop in to "correct" wrong fitness ideas (i read most of the threads here).....which is OFTEN appreciated, but this time...it was nitpicking "with a negative spin". i didn't appreciate it. i chose to say something.

I clearly stated that I "respectfully" disagreed with the original post.  I laid out my critics and provided the reasoning and evidence to back them up.  I never said anything negative about the original poster.  I never called him names, said he wasn't smart, said he wasn't a great athlete or anything of the sort, I'm sorry he felt he needed to take the original post down.

I said that a lot of what he recommended could be improved upon, not that it was wrong.  The only thing I said was wrong was that 90 degrees and parallel were the same thing, I explained my position and the original poster agreed with me.

You may be overestimating the extravagance of world-class endurance athlete's lifestyles.

"You may be overestimating the extravagance of world-class endurance athlete's lifestyles."

Right I wasn't thinking world-class endurance athlete, I was thinking Pro Cyclist.

Something we can agree on.

I think your internet is broken.

SQUATS ARE NOT THE ONLY ANSWER!

you all have reached a majorly disrespectful low out of trying to throw around intellectual weight lifting superiority on here

you all should be embarrassed for bashing ANYONE's workout- unless it was incorrect or could result in injury-- fine to question for clarification to AVOID injury-- but my god people- the bashing is beyond HEINOUS & DISRESPECTFUL

-- potter's workout will work for the average layperson who wants to see mass growth in glutes without even doing 100's of reps-unless they have massive glutes already - then it will for sure build endurance as well if they haven't been doing the reps like him- you can't deny what he's posted will work-- the disrespect to disprove his credibility is absolutely heinous!

shame on you all... shame on you...

(at least melkor references his data-- and questions to get answers- but the other crud from the few of you? it's just unforgivable...)

whose workout would you guys approve as the best or bash worse?

  • lance armstrong
  • tiger woods (this man has his own gatorade-- gf!)
  • david beckham
  • brett favre
  • kimbo slice
  • kelly pavlik
  • mikhail barishnakov's (sp?) (only ballet i could think of besides gudnov!)

all are top athletes (kimbo- tee hee hee) -- it's been said- what works for one - may or may not work for another-- it depends on your goals...

in my opinion-  probably pavlik & slice are possibly the top training athletes-- strength & endurance-- and with massive amounts of fat free mass (slice, hehe)-- i'd say it's a top mix-- so don't knock what you don't think is the best-- each has relevance in it's own realm!!!!

i just think ANYONE who trains daily with a professional coach has the best mix of endurance & strength-- i am not discrediting anyone else-- i think lance could kick kelly in a cycle race and tiger would kick beckham's butt on the links-- mikhail would kill favre in endurance and agility-- slice would kill them all bc he's just a sociopath... but whatever

it's all relative- they all train differently and each sport & athlete has it's advantages and training edges... give potter credit where credit is due people...

By all accounts Tiger Woods workouts are super intense, and he's insanely strong.  I'd put him a the top.  Lance Armstrong is some sort of genetic mutation, mixed with designer drugs, Kimbo is a poster child for cheap androgens, and I'm not sure Beckham and the Ballet dancer do.  Pavlik would be my number 2, behind Tiger, and favre now, I'm not sure, but say 5 years ago, he's have easily been my number 3.  My guess is, the past half decade or so, he's probably training just what he must, to stay healthy.

I completely agree with your point, by the way, and the comparison is very interesting.

Just curious what type of fighting do you do.... obviously you dont box... that is unless you're doing heavy weight but eh your size you could cut down to a lower class if youd just give up the legs...   So id guess some sort of MMA crud?

edit: nvm...  bare knuckle is a joke....

thank you curtinks-- i appreciate wholeheartedly & love your answer- it does make sense in a way-

how many people would actually consider a golfer in incredible shape thru training -- not many-- but obviously- he's training in some way to be superior in a sport ...

i'm curious to hear others on this one--

gigglepuppy- can i watch you take on kimbo slice to see if you still think bare knuckles is a joke?

hell, i'd even pay to see you mma fight rico rodriguez (sorry, but i love him)

-- or potter- maybe he can meet you behind the boards after school and kick the snot outta ya...

lol... I'M TEASING gigglepuppy --- just don't bash another man's passion that doesn't hurt you- sure a lot of guys & girls wants to be the next tap-out sponsored mma star-- but give potter a break! he's taken a whipping on here the past couple days for nothing!!!

Wow. I reckon if you are going to badmouth a guy, who could probably kill you without much effort, doing from a PC is the way to go.

*sigh* maybe giggle puppy was teasing too in his post?

i dunno curtinks- but i feel like we're the only two rational people up tonite on here-- (is that scary?)

and many continue to learn nothing but how to shame others on these boards... i was hoping we'd move on...

He's right there at the top of your list as far as training his body for his sport.  And while golf is a sport that doesn't require the level of training as professional cycling or boxing or MMA, it doesn't mean that some of these guys (Tiger, Camillo Villegas as examples) don't train at an elite level.

Most "average" people would love to even approach the physical fitness of Tiger Woods.

You know what...I wasn't upset until giggly puff or whatever the name is came on and said what was said....the last person  ( I kid you not) who told me that my style was a joke...I told him to come down and see what Kyokushin Karate was all about...he came, and he still thought it was a joke...so I told him to fight me...I knocked him out within 30 seconds of what was suppose to be a 3 minute fight...

he started to twitch too...poor fella

So again...I tell you ...if you think it's a joke...come to the Dojo

the web-site is on my page, and you can go to youtube to check out some kyokushin video's...  http://youtube.com/watch?v=4aqOhgHpGFs

It could be something you like.  it is the most Authentic...and traditional of all the karate styles, and it is the most followed in the world.  If you've ever seen fight quest on Discovery channel...then you might have caught the Kyokushin fighters training.  Punching trees...doing push-ups with wood under our fists...this is what we do...I don't play...I fight, and I fight to win.

When I go out on the tatami (mat) my one mission is to put you down without prolonging your whoopin'. so don't disrespect what I do unless you want to meet me and have a friendly match to realize your ultimate demise.

1. i never suggested you said anything negative about the poster.  in fact, i'm i've never seen you belittle or stoop to such immaturity. i'd say that's not your character from the posts i read.

2. we are going to disagree on how you perceive what you say, and how i perceive what you say.

3.  ...its seems highly unusual, unneccessary and negative in the first place, to "respectfully disagree" with a person who shares his workout routine, a routine that actually works for him.  he wasn't asking for advice or asking how to improve his routine, he was simply sharing proven results.  in fact, the first few posters in this thread were "encouraged" and happy to see it.....that is until you decided to pick it apart.

and sadly now, the entire post was removed by the poster, when it could have encouraged people to be more creative in their fitness routines.

2 cents.  well, its about 50 cents now...
