What is this popping/tingling sensation in legs after workout?

Quote  |  Reply

I noticed that after i walk for a while or workout i get this sensation in my legs. Does anyone know what is it and what causes it? It feels like my thighs are bubble wrap and my muscles are popping the bubbles against the inside of my skin or like tiny air bubbles trying to escape all over my thighs.

Huh, I have no idea what that could be.

i don't know what it is, but i get it too.  i love it ;)

I think I know what you are talking about, and I get it too sometimes. I think it's just muscle twitches or something.

I get it a ton too.  I have NO idea what it is, but I like to think it is fat pockets bursting open and falling away.  (Since I continue to have trouble losing weight I have to say that is probably not right, but hey, a girl can wish can't she!)

I get it too. I thinks its just the muscles twitching after an intense workout.

I'm not positive... but I think it's the lactic acid building up. I get that too

I get that too...still nobody knows what it is? HUH

i guess nobody knows! i am still hoping somebody will know the answer!

lol I love your description! I get something like that too, but usually not for a very long time. Try warming down longer after an intense workout. I usually only get it when I stop abruptly and keep my legs still.

I get that too and I love the idea of it being fat pockets bursting! haha that is a great image.

I just came back from a 4 mile run. As I type this, bubble wrap is popping within my legs, lol. No idea what it is though and I'd also like to know.

I get if after I have been walking for at least 30 minutes.  I think by that point in the workout, you have burned off the glycogen in your muscles and have started burning the fat that is stored.  I know that the morning after workouts like these, I feel thinner and my legs feel smoother.

The popping is not something I ever hear, but I do get a tingly, burning feeling, very different from the lactic acid burn I feel when lifting weights.

I don't think I've every felt the sensation described here--the lactic acid thing is a serious burning feeling and I don't think anyone would describe it like bubbles bursting, so I'm thinking it is NOT that.

But I'm intrigued!! I hope we solve the mystery. Do we get to name it?? :)

I just played DDR for an hour, and I have the same feeling in my thighs. No worries, it's harmless and totally normal!

Your muscles get used to consistent firing and contraction during an extended period of work. If you suddenly stop, they will still think they need to be revving in preparation for more exercise. The popping sensation eases as they cool down.

I often get twitching after sprinting or walking. I believe it is normal. Muscle twitching is called Fasciculation and there are medical and benign reasons for Fasciculation. When you work your muscles they contract and the blood vessels dilate. When  you are done exercising and  your body is returning to a normal state the twitching can occur. It should go away shortly after you finish your workout.

Def. muscles contracting- as one said before- they, the muscles are so used to working out hard- that when you stop they are still working-

LOVE THE FEELING- makes me feel like I have had a good work out!!!

I get that feeling in my legs too...I quite enjoy it now but at first I remember I was concerned. It feels like the nerves in your thighs are goin nuts!
