P90X later.... What now?
So I have a conundrum :) I used to workout to P90X, got hurt (not on the program) and got reallly out of shape - easy enough to fix, I have the desire and motivation - But... I also have enough years experience with fitness to know not to take on P90X until I am a little further into my journey to getting back in shape :) Other than Insanity what are some of the programs you have used with great success, - Needs to be high or higher energy, and "fun" but challenging. I have weights, resistance bands and everything else needed to work out at home, so I am open to suggestion! Thanks
I did a round of Chalean Extreme after my wedding which is another beachbody program she uses a combination of weights plus her own little cardio sessions. you can also substitute the weights at first and use resistance bands so it's good for beginners as well but i think anyone can start with dumbells.
I skipped her cardio and did a hybrid program with Insanity...overall I loooved this program check it out on youtube
I am in a similar situation. I am doing a round of the original Power90 to get ready for P90X. It's a bit repetitive, with only two alternating workouts, but it's simple and quick for someone who doesn't have a whole lot of time and is starting out again.
I have the Power90 too. And P90X..I am doing Leslie Sansone's and then moving on to Firm Express and then my goal is to move on to Power 90 and then Power 90x......However that will probably be next year bahahahha
It does sound like a good plan -and I know the feeling LOL
Everyone is different, and obviously you have to do what you think is best for YOU, but I do want to share about me...
I am a 5'7" female and I am 260 pounds. I badly sprained BOTH ankles in 2011 (luckily at different times) and I think they are going to cause me problems for some time. I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone as out of shape as I am. I have never been a fit or athletic individual.
I own p90x. I wanted to do p90x. I half-arse started the program a few times, and enjoyed it, but my heart was never in it. There was always an excuse. I'm too unfit, I'm injured, I'm too fat, you name it.
I really do think p90x can be a program for ANYONE. Sure, there are other easier programs out there if you really need to use them, by all means go for it. But if you own the program and you enjoy doing it, why put off starting it?
I'm 20 days into the Lean Program. (A little less intense for a beginner then Classic. More cardio, no Plyo, a bit less strength training althoug h there is some.) I've had to modify... A LOT. I have to watch my knees and ankles and be very cognizant of my form, etc. If I feel discomfort, I back off. Because of my starting fitness level and weight I prob. won't be able to do a real pull up at the end of this cycle. Yoga kicks my teeth in. I have no core strength and I flounder... A lot. But you know what? I keep pressing play... Every day. And some of the stuff that was impossible for me on day one I can actually DO now. (It may not be pretty, but it's better then not being able to do it at all.) And I'm only 3 weeks in! Not even a third done and seeing improvements.
Again, hon, you've got to do what's best for YOU, and you know what's best. But I have to say... For me... It was just about stopping the excuses, gritting my teeth, and just DOING... The best I can. And my best isn't always all that impressive, but I'm improving... Every day. And what more can we ask of ourselves and our bodies? It's been an AMAZING experience for me... Esp. because the results in endurance and strength seem to come relatively quickly. I just had to share because I think it's important that we push ourselves (with modification as needed to prevent injury) and I think it's amazing what our bodies (even horibly abused bodies like mine) can do if we just give them a chance. :)
I hope this didn't come across as preachy or anything, because I really don't mean it that way at all. I think I'm still just in awe about this whole process. :)
i lost 45lbs doing Zumba 3 times a week for about 6 months. LOVED it loved it so much im a teacher now! if you go to Zumba.com and 'find a class near you' you can find an class to try. each instructor is different. the Latin moves are so fun and its exciting everytime you go back you learn more and more and get more into the music. hope this might help. not saying Zumba's for everyone, bc trust me i come across those who just dont dance, but if you give it a try you just might fall in love.

THIS.
I started with the same stats as akela, asthmatic though so anything that got me breathing hard was an "asthma attack" had to get over being scared of breathing to get into it. It worked. I modified what I couldnt do and pushed through it. My bf and his kids are all doing it now. Think of the people on it - one has a fake leg! If he can do it on one leg so can most people with the right mindset. Like tony says stop thinking "i cant" and start thinking " i have trouble with" and just do it!
