I have a beach party set in the books for July 14th, which has motivated me more than ever to get toned. However, I've always been pretty sedentary and never really devoted much time to toning. I think now would be a good time to start, especially since I can forsee more beach events in the future!
This may be a stupid question, but if I begin toning now do you think that it would be possible to see results (even small ones) by the time the beach party comes along? If it is possible, how much weight training would you recommend me to do in order to see results in that time?
I'm quite a novice when it comes to fitness, and I do realize that results take time. But how much time exactly? Is it completely unrealistic for me to expect to have changes in my body composition within one month?
I know everybody is different, so I'll give you my stats just in case:
SW: 158 lbs (weighed in on March 2011, before I started using CC)
CW: 130 lbs
GW: 123 lbs
Sex/Age: Female, 24
Current "exercise regimen": lots of walking, but nothing more
You might see some newbie gains in a month. I would start with a weight training program 3 times a week. A lot of women do New Rules of Lifting for Women
You wouldn't be able to finish the program in a month, but you could make some good progress.
You could also do Starting Strength. This program will help you get strong, which is useful if you want to add muscle mass and get definition.
I am currently in the middle of New Rules of Lifting for Women. I think it took me about 3 months to really see a significant difference as far as losing inches. You might see some change by 1 month but don't expect a lot but you might as well get started now so you will be really ready for the next one! ;)
Okay I am 42 and have been dieting since puberty, so I should know better. However, I also have an event where I would love to look way better in a bikini than I do now. It is for two weeks later than your event, and I am going for it.
I am doing it a bit extreme. I am cutting out fried foods and processed sugars, and I am working out twice a day. (treadmill, 1 p90x cd a day, and weight-lifting)
Even if there is not a lot of difference, imagine the self-confidence even the slightest difference will conjure up. You will feel strong and in control, and that will definately look good on you.
So I say go for it.
