Get rid of flabby thighs that rub together?

Quote  |  Reply

Hey, I want some advice, some honest true advice from real people.

I have been reading on the internet that you cannot get rid of the fat that rubs together on your thighs, and that the exercises you do just tone the muscle...

I want to know if this is true as my thighs do rub together and its getting me down as I want to get rid of it

You can't spot reduce, however if you eat fewer calories than you burn and exercise you can lose fat and reshape the thighs so the rub isn't an issue.  I know when I was heavier I didn't dare wear shorts because they would always ride up as the legs rubbed together.  Now I wear shorts and have no problems with them riding up to the crotch.

If you lift weights ( heavy) do lunges, squats, deadlifts, bulgarian split squats and your muscles will take shape and the rub won't be noticeable.

I don't think my thighs rub anymore I have quite a bit of fat still to lose on them, but they are much shapelier and I can see some daylight between them when I stand up.

Some people will always rub.

It just depends on how your body is.

It's normal for your thighs to rub together.  If they don't something is wrong.

^^Yep^^

I am finally at a healthy weight and my thighs still rub. I have to put deodorant on them when I wear a dress so I don't chafe. I think it is just one of those things that is supposed to happen.

hmm I know my thighs rub together, but honestly since getting them into shape the degree of the rub isn't noticeable anymore.

Well, I'll be the outlier; my thighs don't rub together anymore, and I'm 98% sure I'm pear shaped. Essentially what did the trick was gaining muscle mass and reducing my body fat percentage to somewhere around 18%-19%. My weight has completely stabilized at 120lbs for several years, but at this time last year my thighs rubbed together, now I have a noticeable gap and I've lost 2 inches off my thighs.

I did a lot of squats, a lot of lunges, and a lot of pilates. None of these activities will burn a lot of calories/fat, but they will shape and build up the under lying muscle. To get rid of the jiggle and the fat, you'll have to incorporate some sort of HIIT/cardio workout.

Be that ^ as it may but it still doesn't mean the OP will ever get rid of thighs rubbing together - and it is normal if they do, or to use a somewhat better word: It's the most common.

I hardly ever have a problem with my rubing together thighs  unless it's very hot and I wear a dress without wearing tights. And in those cases you can try simple body powder of those anti-rubbing cremes if it really bothers you that much.

Mine have always rubbed together, even when I was a kid I was really self conscious about it, and I was not an over weight kid. I hate it, but I'm learning to accept my body for how it is.

When I was about 13 my Mom and I were working in the kitchen (repairing something, heaven forbid we were cooking!) and I suddenly heard a strange sound. I thought it alarming, like the foundation of the house was crumbling slowly. (this is the same foundation that recently had been on fire...) Mom walked across the floor again and I, relieved, said "Oh, Mom it's just your jeans making a sound when your thighs rub together".

Not the favorite child, ever.

Hmmm see I don't want to accept my body now, because I know I can't and never will.

People are telling me you can't spot reduce but this has got to be a lie, because my friend is still bigger than I am now, but when she was even bigger all she did was walk everywhere and her legs got slim and her belly and arms are still the same as they always was, so her legs and thighs have gotten all over thinner.

So you say you want advice but when you get it you don't believe it.

*shrugs*

You can walk through most of your life not accepting your body, you're just going to be considerably less happy than the people who do.

Good luck with whatever you plan to be doing on your search for a happier you with slimmer thighs.

If this is truly your belief in your mind I think maybe you have the potential for body dysmorphic disorder or whatever it is where you can't accept your body no matter how thin and fine it is.  I had a boss who was thin - on the very low BMI side and worked out all the time and she still had liposuction on her thighs and butt and quite frankly it made her look worse and not only that it made her cellulite even worse.

Either learn to accept your genetics, the fact that you will have thighs that touch whether they rub together a lot or little its the way you are.  maybe learn to walk with a wider stance.

Chances are your friends genetics allow her to lose weight in your eyes where you find your flaws.  It could also be her body fat is stored more in her upper body and yours in the lower hence apple / pear shape body types.

Well if my friend lost fat off just her thighs and calves then SURELY its false? Surely you can lose weight off 1 area?

And I will never accept my body until i'm what I was at 16, I haven't been happy since then, and I can't see myself being happy until I have the exact same body, it's just not me...

I weighed myself this morning, and i'm 4lbs HEAVIER, even though i've eaten 1500 a day for the past 3 weeks, less carbs and fat, been cycling and swimming and doing a lot more walking lately... and i've put ON 4lbs... I just don't get it,  what the hell am I doing wrong?

Also i'm 172lbs... I'm nowhere even NEAR thin...

Well maybe you are not eating enough if you are working out that much.

Maybe reading this article might help as well

Instead of all the cardio - go to the free weight section of a gym and start doing some squats, deadlifts lunges and that will reshape your legs

Well, you can't control where you lose fat from. Your body pretty much decides where it wants to take the fat from and take it from there, regardless of the exercises . Some people lose the leg fat first, some people the gut fat. Your friend is just someone who loses fat from her thighs.

Basically, sure, some people can lose weight off one area, but they don't have control over what that area is. Someone else might walk all day and lose fat from their arms. Kinda frustrating, I know...

You're right, it is false! Surely your subjective perception of your friend's shape is enough to thwart all the scientific evidence gathered from around the world.

If walking helped your friend so amazingly, why don't you start walking everywhere?

Now there's a losing proposition if ever one was written. First of all, you're never going to get that body back. Your body continued to grow and develop. You added muscle, your metabolism changed, you graduated from high school and started doing grownup stuff. Second, and more important, imagine you wake up tomorrow and your fairy godmother wanded your body to what you've determined in your mind to be the perfect shape. How does that change your life, your responsibilities, your relationships, your mind and soul?

I'm no expert but I think genetics is what decides if your thighs will rub together or not. If you have narrow hips, your thighs may touch. Wider hips, maybe a gap. I believe the best way to reduce your discomfort is to exercise (lifting weights) to change your shape as much as your genetics will allow.

Cashews are delicious, but they're pretty calorie and fat dense. So when I want cashew chicken, I keep an eagle eye on the amount of nuts, and I keep the rest of the ingredients nice and light. Works every time.
