Hi Your gonna think I'm odd, but, I live in the middle of the countryside and the idea of going out on all the lonely roads freaks me out a bit. I'm wanting to get into jogging. Would it be ok if I ran around the garden on grass?

And also will I lose a lot of weight? Would love to hear people's success stories

Thanks for your help in advance guys x

plot out a half mile or mile out and back and loop it as long as you want to run.  The more comfortable you become, the longer out you can extend your run.  I understand your concerns about safety.

As far as weight loss goes, I lost 50 lbs swimming, biking, and running.  You CAN lose weight running, but like all forms of diet, you have to control your calories, and that's all mental.

Good luck.

Agreed, extending the distance away from your house a little at a time til you are more comfortable works out fine.

Invest in some mace as well.  I've never had to use it yet, but it's good to keep on you.

do you have a dog? when i lived in the middle of nowhere, i'd take my dog with me. he was harmless, but he was a huge black lab, so i felt pretty safe.

you could also get someone to run with you. there's safety in numbers.

if you do decide to run alone, make sure you've got a cell phone on you. i always thought my mom was being paranoid when she made me take mine, but now i've realized you should never go on a run with no way to reach anyone in case you get injured, etc.

running will help you lose weight, but you've got to eat right and all, as well.

I'm allergic to dogs! Which sucks. But thanks for your help guys. Already started cutting my calories and will start up running when my Uni exams are over!

Hopefully will see a difference for a ball I'm going to in November!

Thank you again :)
