Running Music for 180 steps

Quote  |  Reply

I am trying to run with a quicker, more efficient turnover rate, which equates to 180 steps per minute (or 3 steps per second--left, right, left, etc).  Know of any good music with a tempo/beat that is best suited for this pace?  I ran today trying to get that 180 step rhythm, but it was hard when some of the songs felt more "draggy".

I have copied this from a reply I gave someone else on the same topic so forgive me if there are some seemingly irrelevant comments!

Go To:

I have used these sites to identify songs with particular BPM

Jog.fm also has a handy calculator where you type in your pace/time per km and it will give you appropriate BPM songs.

Otherwise, like others have suggested, find some songs which match the pace you like to run at and see what its BPM is. I would definitely suggest having a variety of BPM running playlists though as a faster than normal BPM can really get your speed up.

Once you find a BPM you like you can anlayse the music in your itunes library and assign BPMs using something like "Cadence desk top Pro" (link below). Its is not free but only costs a few dollars. You can then trawl your own libray of music. I have over 5000 songs in my itunes library and this software was able to anayse it all in a couple of hours of fiddling around. Found lots of good songs that i didnt even know I had!

I've gone so far as to use Audacity to alter a few really good songs to have a better tempo. But that was when I had free time, i.e. long before kids entered the picture.

Go to Podrunner.com They have a great selection of music. And they add new music daily. All the tunes come with the duration and the BPM on it. They even have some for intervals and other tunes that start from 130BPM at minute 0 and ends with 185 BPM at minute 40.

Do you like George Thorogood?

Treat Her Right (179 bpm)

You Talk too Much (180 bpm)

Long Gone (181 bpm)

Gear Jammer (182 bpm)

Thanks for all of the selections!   I'm getting hubby to download songs for me for my run tomorrow.  :)
