Splitting Weight Lifting workouts into 2 sessions occasionally

Quote  |  Reply

So, I have been lifting heavy as I can, weights 30 minutes 3 times weekly. At home, with dumb bells and a bar bell, also doing some bodyweight exercises like push ups and tri dips. My question is, today I have the opportunity to go to the gym, where I like to use SOME of the machines.

Would it be okay if I did my 30 minute routine at home (full body, compound exercises) and then maybe 3 hrs later went to the gym and did another 30 minutes of weights? Would this be harmful in any way? I would get a chance to work some different muscles but I don't want to give up my home routine either, I don't relish doing squats and lunges in front of the gym crowd!!

I rarely get a 60 minute weight workout in a day but I know many do 60 minutes 3 times a week, so it isn't harmful correct?

I do full body 3 times weekly, never do split workouts because it takes more time.

That seems fine.

I think that would be OK, but really, working the other muscles when you only get a chance is not going to have much benefit I would think. Your full body work should be working essentially everything as is.

I don't think it will hurt you though. If you go regularly then you could benefit.

You might want to look at what exactly you can take advantage of; maybe there is a yoga or TRX class you could take to totally change up what you are doing, or get some new ideas too
