Sports Bras? Help a sista out!

Quote  |  Reply

Hey folks,

Anyone have any good recommendations on sport's bras to wear while running?  I am not a petite lady in that regard, and the sport's bras I buy at department stores just aren't cutting it.  I also am new to running so I have no idea what to look for in a supportive sport's bra.  Help a sista out!

Thanks :)

This is the best one I have.  I have another one of this same brand that is decent as well, just kind of tight to get on.  I tried Nike...not supportive enough!

target had a sale recently on their sports bras and I love mine though suggest buying a size tighter than you want if you want strong support, I bought my size - 42DD/XXL and It wasn't really tight enough to run in but works fine for aerobics, will probably downsize to a XL or large soon to be able to run but they were fairly cheap too.

Thanks to both of you!  iapologizenow, I think I might have to invest in that one!

Believe it or not, the sports bras at Victoria's Secret are really awesome. I know, I know...I thought it was a joke when they came out. But there was a deal going on and a friend recommended them...it was only around $20. Really great bra and I am big on top too.

Also Nike sports bras are great. I alternate between the Vic's and Nike.

I recently got a couple of Under Armour sports bras on sale at a local sports store and I've been really surprised at how comfortable and supportive they are.

Clampers-  what exactly do you consider big on top?  I am curious because I have never seen anything at VS that would fit on my big toeSmile but I love the way their underwear fit and last through washings, so I might be willing to try them.

As long as you are not generously proportioned in any way - cup or band size. I always found their cups ran too small and I long ago outgrew a single D (which their DD is). Besides being pricey.

This is exactly what I have experienced with them =(  I bought a DD from them many years ago and it was more like a real life C cup.  I wear a DDD now, so sports bras are difficult to find that are supportive while having enough coverage.

First of all, get a real bra fitting.  Victorias Secret is an absolute joke.  Do not waste your time asking any of the employees to fit you.  The best places will not use a tape measure (though they can be used to get an approximate size if you order online).

Most women are wearing the wrong size, and just buy bigger bands instead of getting a smaller band with a larger cup.

Google Linda's Bras, Fig Leaves, Her Room....

I personally swear by the Anita sports bras, extreme hold.  I ride horses, I run, and in that bra I wear a 32H.

Trust me on this one.  It is a passion of mine, so feel free to PM me any other questions you may have.

I wear a 34DD...Vic's works for me.

Best of luck finding a bra you love!

This is the only sports bra I will wear and I've tried a ton. I own 6 of these bad boys. Machine wash in a garment bag, hang to dry, and they will last forever. They wick away moisture. I don't have to think about my boobs at all when I train; they aren't going anywhere!

ETA: They are on SALE right now too!

Absolutely agreed, though I think the size they keep telling me I am they are off their rockers because it's far too big in the band and my boobs fall out underneath usually! (Also cups sizes vary soooo much between brands that I've fit everything from a D to a G)

@ lunamud i heart those sooooo much!! I second this if you can afford it! They are awesome, but poor students losing weight can't afford $30 bra's unless they're a size you plan on keeping for a long time.  oh and on sale here:   http://www.onehanesplace.com/outlet/clearance -13671--1/all-clearance/champion-double-dry-r eg;-seamless-full-support-underwire-sports-br a-23807--1?d1=CSEO&cm_mmc=ComparisonShopp ing-_-google.com-_-Clearance%3EIntimates%20Cl earance-_-23807&CAWELAID=1076568668   for $19.99

You ladies are lucky you seem to be able to find support in $20 bras.  I wore the wrong size for a long time and had shooting pain in my neck and shoulders, had my breasts flop out the top AND bottom.  Most recently I wore one of my old ones by accident (36G vs 32H).  I felt like someone used my breasts as punching bags.

I've never seen this bra for $20 before. (It's a good deal.) I paid $40 -$45 for all mine. It's a heavy duty bra. There are two layers. The under layer has an underwire and the upper layer is a compression layer that comes up pretty high (sticks out of some of my v necks). I'm not an H cup, but this bra gives my 34Ds more support than some more expensive bras that I have tried. Also, its quite tight and minimizes. Some people might not like that and it isn't the most flattering bra, but it does what I want a sports bra to do.

I'll never go back to anything else.

You can usually find the colors nobody wants on the clearance rack for cheaper.

I have this one in Gray...it just wasn't supportive enough for me!  Maybe I bought it too big or something.

I'm a D, and I use mine to run in.  It flattens me out to nothing, but everyone is different, and bra's are something that are so hard to find anyway.

I've also used the old navy compression bras.  They worked well, but didn't fit me as well as the Nike Combat's.

I need to give a shout out to Moving Comfort. I used to be a 34DDD, now down to a 32DD. Their Juno bra is practically bulletproof. I run in it, and nothing even budges. I also like their Fiona bra for lower impact activities. You can usually find them for sale on Amazon.com for $30 or even less.

Can I just say how awesome it is to see so many women who like me are NOT flat chested! Every girl I know/have ever been friends with was lucky to scrape a B! Obv saw bigger boobed women out and about but I figured we had to be a bit of a (har har) tiny minority!

It's awesome.

I like Jockey's all cotton, the "high impact" one.... Had one for almost 20 years now....
