Why is my stomach so F-A-T!!??!!?!

Quote  |  Reply

So my stomach never really use to bother me, I always noticed everything else. However, lately I just can't get past the fact that I have a huge stomach.  I don't think oh I just noticed it, I think I have lost weight other places but not my stomach.  So here is my question - what have some of you done to tone up your stomach?  I know you can't "spot reduce" but surely some of you have had some sort of change to your diet or done some workout routine that has helped shrink your stomachs.

I made my first step into fighting the tummy bulge today -- I quit drinking beer.

I think the beer will really help. Also I've heard cutting out soda can really help with the tummy because it can make you very bloated. Lots of water can flush out all of the bloat.

When I had a flat tummy ( pre baby! eek!) I did a lot of swimmimg and walking whilst holding my tummy in. I'm not a big fan of crunches but they obviously help as so many people have success with them.

Diet and exercise will reduce fat. Abdominal exercise will increase muscle in that area.

Cut out alcohol, white bread [white everything], soda, processed foods, fast foods..

Stick to whole/raw foods as much as possible eating in increments of 6 mini meals a day.

I also have problems with my tummy flab, im thin....except there, and I think everything I eat goes straight to my tummy.  I concur with the beer and white bread suggestions, I've also decided to cut out anything that comes in a package (including crackers, sandwich breads, breadsticks, candy, cookies) Even if they're "organic" its always better to go with fresh stuff.  My friend says running keeps her midsection lean, which you do see with distance runners.

Careful with abs though, they will create more muscle which will increase size of your tummy....in a good way, but it builds up under the flab, if anything it just makes you much stronger, more muscle burns more calories, no?

I think that my stomach holds the most fat on my body. While losing weight, I have lost it all over....but since I have so much around my waist, it still stands out.

As we continue to lose weight, the belly will go down.

I have the SAME problem I am 5'2 and I weigh about 118 so you would think I would appear pretty petite...well I do...EXPEPT FOR MY TUMMY! I always look about 3 months pregnant and it is so frustrating because I have a small frame and what appears to be a small soccer ball under my shirt!!!! Well I just started P90X work outs and diet plan that is supposed to dramatically transform your body in 90 days. SO I guess we will see how it works Im on day 8. I will keep you all updated. If it works for me, maybe it will work for you = )

There have been reports out recently that state that if you are stressed the weight goes to your middle section (waist).  Maybe this is something to do with it?

I definitely have stress in my life.  I don't eat white bread, don't really care for it much, or very many processed foods, and there is only one fast food r'est where I live so I eat fastfood maybe twice a year.  Perhaps the amount of beer I was drinking was enough to make up for the lack of whites, processed, and fast food ;-)

Thanks for the suggestions guys!!

i hate to say it, but maybe its genetics?

Im 98lbs, 5' 1.5", and have no fat anywhere except my belly and boobs. I run + work out, and what im finding now, is boobs are shrinking at an incredible rate (lost 2-3 inches there since last year, but no where else), but stomach is still the same.

For me anyways, im sure i would have to have really NO breasts before my body will use up my belly fat.

My mother is in her 50's and still has a six pack.  I don't think I can blame this one on genetics Tongue out

Kodama! :)

Also, I have the same problem. You can't spot reduce, but you can stop building big muscle and maybe have it 'settle down', or something? I want to practice what I preach but I still love the feeling that all the ab training is doing something even though it's obviously not... or, more likely, it's being built under my fat as another commenter suggested. So, is the solution running, swimming etc? I can't run to save my life but I love to swim, so I'll try to do it more often (I try to aim for once a week) and look for results.

I'm not sure if that made any sense. People, feel free to pick up on this.

My stomach fat didn't go away until I got my overall weight down to under 110 lbs which means my BMI is considered under weight. If you build a lot of muscle then you might be able to get rid of the fat without the weight...everyone's body is different. My fat just so happened to like that area on me and so it took a lot of calorie counting and exercise to get rid of it. It was worth it though. I love having a flat stomach and I really never thought it would happen to me because its always been my trouble area. I do sit ups and things of that nature but its not what caused the fat to go away...I do those to tone my stomach and help with my posture.

Genetics determine how you distribute fat. Your body is simply designed to hold onto fat last in the belly. Exercises can increase abdominal strength but that will do nothing for the fat over them. Reducing carbs can cut down water weight (bloat), but it won't actually remove fat. In order to get rid of belly fat, you have to keep reducing your overall bodyfat by keeping a calorie deficit (cutting out beer will definitely help that, unless you are replacing it with something of equal calories). And remember, while you are upset that your body clings to fat in the stomach area, there are other people with flat abs complaining because they carry fat on their hips/thighs/butt/arms.

somebody suggested crunches.

i also thought that theyd help with tummy fat.

all crunches do is tone the muscle under the belly fat, so if you do a lot of crunches youll have toned abs but you wont know it until you get rid of the belly fat thats on top of the muscle.

for all you girls out there. please do not lift weights.. you may think it's really cool and stuff but truth is...you become very un attractive not saying you should not work out but just don't get ripped because it is way more disgusting than fat

If a girl thinks it's cool to lift weights, it IS cool. No one gives a **** what you think, blackhawk.

Uh...? :/

Most girls won't get "super ripped" if they lift weights. Most go for toning which is what weights do.

Strong bump (bb.com lingo is catching on)

Seriously zombie thread to say something retarded?

And I don't know if you're a guy or a girl, but fit girls = da bomb.

Shh, I want to hear more from this blackhawk.

Tell us, what should women do instead? Can you give us examples of women who have lifted weights and are now ugly?

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
