Quote  |  Reply

I have lost weight in my arms, & I am noticying stretch marks on my inner/outer shoulders. I think this is happenning b/c of all the weight I am losing. Will this be going away? What do I need to do more of? (weight lifting)

I am 27 & 200 lbs 5'7". Lost in 5 weeks 17 lbs. Just to give you guys an idea.

Stretch marks are unfortunately a rather permanent condition - it's the collagen in your skin that's been torn and damaged by being stretched out, and it's as permanent as scars. You can make them less noticeable by tanning the surrounding skin, using a lotion to make the rest of the skin more flexible and hopefully reducing the appearance of the marks by the rest of your skin not pulling on it, or cosmetic surgery of some kind.

Also, there's some interesting work being done with laser treatments now; along the same lines as laser tattoo removal.

If it really bothers you once you hit your goal weight and you've reached a stable equilibrium so your body won't change any more, you can investigate your options in more detail. For now, a good skin lotion, tanning a bit, and lifting really heavy weights to build up the muscle will help.

Ok... i do not have all the $$ to do all that. I wont be wearing sleeveless shirts. Thats for sure. Thanks for the info.

My daughter recently lost alot of weight. She is 12 and went from short and round to tall and nicely curved after a growth spurt. I noticed she wouldn't wear shorts and asked her why and there they were big purple stretch marks on her legs, Poor Kid!

My neighbor sells Avon and sent over some free samples of a Anew Clinical Stretch Mark Smoother. I gave her the free samples never dreaming that it would do any good because as Melkor said they are a rather permanent condition.

She used it the first night and woke the next day and they were GREATLY faded!

She used it a couple more days and they faded so that they are clear and not easlily noticed.

It worked so well I bought her another tube and now you can't tell they are there unless you really look for them.

I don't work for Avon or sell Avon I swear but this stuff worked for my highly self concious 12 year old perhaps it could help you. It did not get RID of them but it faded them so they are barely noticeable. The cream is like 25 dollars a tube but once you have faded them to where you can't see them you can pretty much stop using it.

I have a friend that sells Avon. I buy that cream & see if it works. Thanks

Hmm, now I need to find an Avon lady and see if that stuff works on the stretch marks on my biceps :)

does it work on all skin colours?? i've had stretch marks for years, since my teens, and added to that are the pregnancy stretch marks. the ones on my arms are the most annoying since i like to go sleeveless. i've checked different creams but someone told me that once stretch marks have been there for a while (years) there's no hope for them Cry

I don't se why it wouldn't work on all skin colors it's a cream not anything to cover then. It claims to work on old stretch marks too but I have never used it. My daughter's were still purple and it faded them right away so you can hardly see them. Here's the link:

Yeah, I have some strecth marks on my shoulders that are a make of pride...and stretch marks on my gut from when I was like 14...yeah, not so much pride with those
