So I heard swimming is a good exercise for general toning and I've heard people can burn a lot of calories but I was wondering how fast you need to swim to get some high calorie burning. I am not a good swimmer. I can only manage a slow breast stoke. Would this still be an effective way to tone/ burn a lot of calories?

Not about the speed. Michael Phelps would burn a lot fewer calories swimming at your top speed than you do at your top speed.
It's all about your % of HRM.
