I just got a new tattoo yesterday and was wondering if I should put workingout on hold till it heals..  I know bumping it and stuff is bad for it untill it heals, but what about sweat and stuff coming through where it is?  or am i just being over concerned?

As long as you are careful not to bump/scrape/irritate it and wash it well I think it should be fine. I never had a problem with mine :]

ok =]

Generally it is advised that you leave it for a couple of weeks. You don't want to knock off any scabs or get it infected. You can catch up with exercise but you can't change your tattoo if it messes up.

Maybe some time out of the gym might be a good rest for your body too?

When I got a tattoo, the artist told me it would be fine to exercise if I was careful. I found that my sweat really made it sting though!

well i just finished my 1st work out with it... nothing happend.. was just carefull to not bump it or put any pressure on it.. sweat didnt bother ir of anything.. but i kept splashing some water on it to wash away anything that might have got on it... went home and put on the cream.. and all is well =]

Yeah when I got my tattoo, I avoided over exercising. I mean i still stuck with weight training, but I left out cardio and general exersize that would make me sweat, cause it made it sting like a bitch.

In general, you should be fine, though when it starts to scab you wanna let it heal right, don't do too much running/ wear loose fitting clothing because running with tight clothing will inevitably cause chaffing, which will force off pieces of scabs that have not healed properly yet...hence your tattoo will look blotchy.

And lastly is location. I mean if its a small tattoo in a location where you can let it air out, your fine...however if its hidden or in an awkward place (like armpit/foot) then your screwed for a few weeks.

yea its in an easy place to air out.. it goes from my shoulder down to my elbow... how long does it take to scab over

No advice, just a comment...

Isn't a tattoo a great way to reward your growing pipes??

I can't wait to get my next one.....waiting for the money, the arms are now readier than they were when I got my first (and only tat).

I bet your arm looks awesome!

i'm going to get my 26.2 tattoo in a few hours! YAY, i'm so pumped! i can't wait! but then i also have an 8 mile run to do this afternoon. boo! getting it on my side on my ribs so i'll have to be careful. tattoos are awesome ways to remember a time in your life. i don't have a good memory but clearly remember my life surrounding the days i got my tattoos!!

I got a piece done on my ribs while I was abroad in Australia, and then went on my normal morning run the next day. I had to stop after about 2 blocks because I hadn't realized how much it would hurt to just breathe with bruised ribs.

They normally scab over within a few days, and my scabs are all off by the end of the second week. I've never really had a problem with exercise while waiting for my tattoos to heal, except you can't swim. In fact, I usually try to go work out because that means I can show them off :)

check it out!!!! just got it yesterday. i'm pretty proud that i did the marathon, so i wanted to treat myself. i have been wanting another tattoo and couldn't figure out what to get, i figured it out around mile 14!!!! no problems running with it. i just have to be careful cause it is on the ribs and a bit is right where elastic is on the sports bra. cheers! i love it!!!

Nice.  I like the "font" -- can you call it a font when its a tat?  I like your story too -- I am a runner and I totally know how things sometimes just occur to you on a run -- that clarity of tought is one of the reasons I run.

My next tat will be the Greek symbols for three girls and one boy, the colours of their birth month int he circular part (my kids), just above my maple leaf (I'm a proud Cannuck).....don't know how I'll lace them together -- hoping the tattoo artist will have an idea.

a good tattoo artist should be able to work with you and your idea. go to someone who is reputable and maybe even has a waiting list. like a good restaurant, the better it is, the harder it is to get in. you should never feel any pressure that you are being rushed with the design, and don't just  feel like you like it, when you see it, you should LOVE it. good luck with everything.

and you can call it a font. and your idea for your tattoo is great! post pics when you get it!

Got it done!

And I LOOOOVE IT!!!

You have to click the photo to see all of it.

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
