I bought Turbo Jam two weeks ago, and here is my take on it so far.
It comes with:
Two DVDs, containing 5 workouts:
Learn & Burn - Introduction to the workout. All the dvds are based off 11 "Elite Moves," and this dvd does a good job of introducing each move. Once these are mastered, the other dvds are very easy to follow.
20 Minute Workout- Good for beginners and those who are too lazy/short on time to go through the Cardio Party workout. Charlene does a good job of going through each movement slowly at first before increasing the pace. This is perfect for beginners who want to make sure they do each movement correctly for maximum results as well as for the advanced because the slowwww movements really let you feel the burn in your muscles.
Turbo Sculpt (40 min) - This is for muscle shaping, toning, tightening. I actually haven't gone through this workout because I don't have any home weights, and waterbottles are too light for it to be effective for me.
Cardio Party (45 min) - This is mainly the one I use. Starts off nice and easy with non-traditional stretching and progresses to the real workout. It does a nice job of mixing up the body parts worked out and mixing up the pace. When your kicks begin resembling random leg flops out of tiredness, Charlene will switch to punches or standing ab movements. The key to this is constant movement, whether you are punching, kicking, or just dancing like a fool to shake it out.
Ab Jam (20 min) - This is fairly easy. I would recommend, depending on your current fitness level, to continue with your current ab regimen. This dvd can be used as a cool down after Cardio Party.
Extras: At the end of the dvd, should you choose to let it continue playing, there are cute little outtakes and inside glimpses into Charlene's life as well as success stories and cast-bios. More seasoned users can choose the "Pump Up" the music option to drown out Charlene's voice while first-timers may want to select the other option and let Charlene guide you through the movements.
My Take on the Levels:
Beginners - Fine to use. If you don't like/can't jump around, there are two easily viewed instructors within the cast who perform all the movements at a lower intensity level. Their feet never leave the ground - they do modified versions of each exercise.
Intermediate/Advanced - This isn't a hoax. I'm not sure if it's the miracle dvd some people make it out to be, but it will work up a sweat, and you will feel tired by the end of it.
General - One of the best things about this dvd or just cardio classes in general is that you determine the intensity level of your workout. The more controlled and more powerful your movements, the more calories you burn. The more you jump around, the more calories you burn. Charlene's program allows for individual adjustment (how high you kick, how much you twist during your ab movements, etc).
A Guidebook, which has:
-Charlene Johnson's (the perky girl who created this) mini-biography
-Overview of the "cast" (the other people who dance in the workouts)
-Brief description of each workout
-Cutouts of cards picturing/describing each of the Elite 11 moves
-Turbo Jam Eating Plan, which includes recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner
-Dining out recommendations
Miscellaneous Items:
-Cloth measuring tape for you to measure your progress in terms of inches lost
-10-Day Kick Start brochure, which helps you get started on the Turbo Jam program, complete with with
-What to eat for Breakfast/Snack/Lunch/Snack/Dinner for each of the 10 days (comes with recipes and everything, lol)
-Recommendations for what workout to do everyday.
-Notecard to record the pre-10-day-workout and post-10-day-workout to measure your progress
Overall:
I only use the dvds. Personally, I prefer running, partly because I don't believe this gives quite as good a cardio workout and partly because, imho, running is just awesome.
It's a fun workout though. The best part about buying this, for me, is that I now really don't have any excuses for not exercising. The gym might be too crowded, and the weather outside might be absolutely horrendous, but fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you view it), my dvd player is just fine.
Those of you who actually read this super long somewhat rambling post, thanks! Hope it helps =)
