should I still workout if I'm sore?

Quote  |  Reply
Did hot yoga for the first time yesterday (loved it) and woke up pretty sore in my legs and sides. I told myself I would try to exercise at least five times this week but don't know if it's bad for my muscles or something so should I still workout?

I did. Had a post yoga funk and felt better after some cardio.

I actually have the very same problem today as well. On Saturday I did a lot of leg and ab work..Sunday was arms and chest..yesterday I rode a horse that made me utilize my leg muscles in an entirely different way so I woke up this morning with an extremely sore legs & butt!

I was going to do a work out video this morning because my gym is closed both today and tomorrow. I cannot workout tomorrow most likely because I have an appointment..so I was really set on working out today. I'm just soo sore. I might go for a long walk instead..idk. It's hard to decide. And the fact that it's a whooping 90 degrees doesn't help my motivation, either.

Sore yes Pain no Anything sharp pain absolutely not
If you are sore, go ahead but don't overdo it. There were countless times that I I've done hard workouts and races where I was just sore at the start line

Agreed 204%.

And to add to it, soreness temporarily disappears or lessens while working out (generally).  Pain does not.

Work through soreness.  Stop if there's pain.  Pain indicates something is wrong.

"Pain is weakness leaving the body...only to be replaced by stupidity" is how the phrase should go. Laughing

I popped back in to say that I actually hopped on the elliptical for 30 minutes. I was pretty sore in the beginning but I pushed through it..and my soreness actually lessened ever since I finished. So go ahead and work out! It'll make you feel better..but maybe just stick to cardio. I could imagine that strength training wouldn't be too pleasant unless you work a different muscle group.
