Quote  |  Reply
I drink usually only water and green tea, but there was a sale on "spakling cherry water" at shoppers and I had to get it (stupid stores! but 0 cals!) haha, anyways... I know theres aspartame in it, and I'm leary about drinking it, so; how bad is it for you? Is one bottle HORRIBLE? What are the effects?

Thanks!

Hi.  When I was younger and smaller, any foods with aspartame gave me horrible migraine headaches.  Now that my body is a little bigger, I only get headaches, but I still feel like it's doing me harm, so I don't eat anything with aspartame.  If you look up aspartame on wikipedia.org, it has some discussion on the health risks, but a lot of people I have heard say the cancers it causes in lab rats are because the lab rats are given so much more than any normal human could ever eat and so that's how they justify that it's safe.  I trust my head (aches) and stay away from it.
In my opinion, anything as chemical as this can't be good for you
I avoid it... gave me headaches as well ... now I prefer seltzer water (no calories and no artificial anything) and water...
I know this is late but check out this site:

I am unfortunately an aspertame junky and when I came across an email that told me to stop wasting my money on bug killer and use aspertame instead to kill ant mounds, I started to do a lot of research.  Sure, it is unnatural and not as good as splenda (for you) but I am used to it and refuse to eat real sugar most times anymore.  It's a good substitution for me and I have no side effects whatsoever.

There are other websites you can look up that will help you scratch the horrible reputation that aspertame has received over the years from your mind...

P.S. we eat tons of unnatural things in our world today... even the veggies we eat are sprayed with pesticides... we eat a ton of foods with preservatives...

I did a study on aspartame a while ago and lets just say it has a similar chemical make-up of most cancers
its so bad,

mom's friend got what they thought was  MS,  (multiple sclerosis)  when infact, it turned out to be the coined "aspartame disease".     it doesnt get expelled from our systems, and builds up over time.  lets say if you're a hard core diet coke drinker for example for about 20 years, it can really mess you up.

it scares me.  i try to stay away from chemicals like that, or chemically altered sugar.  plus it can make you crave sweets to be loading up on false sugars.
Not good at all.

One bottle wont kill you though. I wouldn't drink it on a daily basis..

I don't drink / consume anything with aspartame in it, other than gum that is given to me when im with a friend or whatever...

There is this great product I have been using for years on the market called BUZZWATER...I am amazed it is not in all the stores but the company when I contacted them said they are not interested in retail and the major beverage companies have made it to hard for them to fight and they have tried to keep them out of the marketplace. If you want certified gold award winning water enhanced with superior liquid Ionic minerals and electrolytes this product is amazing... It is also enhanced with the same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee... accept the caffeine is 100 % pure / pesticide free and organically grown and extracted from coffee beans and green tea leaves... This product has been amazing for me. I love a cup of coffee but more so I cut out the cream and sugar and do not like my coffee black... but I still love a little wake up boost of energy from the caffeine. When I started using this product I was a 4 cup a day gal... single cream and sugar... Add that up every day, week ,month and year and that's allot of calories... So now I have just one coffee a day and find my healthier caffeine alternative by drinking a bottle of this enhanced water. I not only get my 76 essential electrolytes and minerals they enhance this natural spring water with.... but I also get my hydration and boost from the clean caffeine....I never knew that coffe had so many chemicals in it let alone the poor municipal tap water they make a cup of coffee from. There are no calories or  in this product. I love to take a bottle to the gym or on my runs. For you who do not like the taste water all the time this company has flavour power vitamin mineral and electrolyte packets you add to a bottle of water. No sugar or artificial sweetener's or artificial ingredients. NO ASPERTAME... The use an all natural sweetener that is amazing called Stevia... This product is called Einsteine power bottle water drink mixes. Search the company under Buzzwater. I swear by this product for it is all natural and no artificial toxic ingredients of synthetic vitamins and minerals

Chalk another one up for headaches.  Aspartame causes them that is, even just drinking a partial diet soda.

The latest article my health-wellness doctor gave me to read definitely suggested that aspartame should be a chemical to avoid taking in our diet.  I have also researched aspartame many times on the Web and found a great deal of disagreement about whether it is harmful or not for us to consume.  One thing I recommend is that people look at the copyright dates for some of the articles.  I assume that if one does drink diet sodas and eat things like no-sugar puddings, he/she should do it in moderation, if at all.

Having stated that, I will say that I have been drinking diet sodas and eating no-sugar gelatin and no-sugar pudding for years.  To the best of my knowledge I have never gotten a headache or any other type of ailment from my consumption of aspartame.

However, since so many people have been writing articles about its harm, I am cutting back on my consumption of it.  But unless I know that I am definitely suffering ill effects from drinking diet sodas containing aspartame, I will continue to consume them--just not as often or in as great a quantity.

Aspartame is toxic. With the current information available of aspartame causing brain damage and reproductive failure, there is no good reason to willingly continue to consume it in any quantities. Real sugar is much, much healthier than a toxic poison like aspartame. By trying to do what they think is "healthy" and avoiding natural sugars people are poisoning themselves with toxic artificial sweeteners.

And Shane, I find it quite ironic that you are highly cautious about natural coconut oil consumption, but will willingly continue your consumption of something that has clearly been proven to be poison like aspartame.

"Long-Term Damage. It appears to cause slow, silent damage in those unfortunate enough to not have immediate reactions and a reason to avoid it. It may take one year, five years, 10 years, or 40 years, but it seems to cause some reversible and some irreversible changes in health over long-term use."

If you normally only drink water and green tea I don't think a glass or two of this cherry stuff is going to do you any harm.

Aspartame is toxic.

 So is water.

I am very leery of it, although I don't think an rare drink now and then will be harmful, unless you feel specific side effects that you can confidently attribute to the aspartame. Personally, I think it tastes gross. And I think it's possible to become addicted to it. (I think I did when I was younger)

am i safe to assume you've had something like, 23446 buzzwaters when writing this?

If I'm not mistaken, our bodies don't recognize aspartame, which is why it builds up in our bodies. Our bodies do recognize sugar, being a natural calorie source from the beginning of time, and knows to store that sugar into energy/fat. We are so scared of having things like "sugar" "fat" and "calories" (we, in the collective dieting sense) that we ignore nutrition at the expense of getting "less of the bad stuff". Real sugar isn't bad, but it's better that we get unrefined sugar.

I have never liked the taste of aspartame, and the name of it made me weary long before I began to research the ill effects of it. I'll stick to real sugar and keep it in moderation, or at least try to keep it in the fruit or at least in the brown form.

why do people always point to other things when they are wrong? Talk about yourself. You eat tons of unnatural things and your veggies YOU eat are sprayed with pesticides. Some of us grow our own food, hunt wild game, and if we buy , we buy 100% organic. Even my honey is 100% organic and kosher certified by a Raabi (his name escapes me but it's on honeylocator.com, the national honey board). And i'm sure you eat at McDonalds anyway so aspartame is the healthiest thing they have on their menu anyway (in their diet drinks). McDonalds even had toxic cadmium in the paint of their cups one time and had a recall.

Too much of anything is bad for you. Some of the worst known toxins are found in nature. As floggingsully pointed out, water can be toxic.  Having aspirin here and there is good for you, but after enough pills your heart will stop.

"Aspartame is made up of

aspartic acid - an amino acid
phenylalanine - an amino acid
with an ester bond on it"

Dietary protein contains the first two.

and on and on and on...

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
