I just split a bagel with my friend, it had cream cheese on it~~

I'm pretty sure it's not THAT bad if you split it, but how many calories are in a bagel with cream cheese? Are they good for you?

It depends on how big the bagel is, and what kind of cream cheese. look up the kind of bagel you ate.

Bagels are bread. If it's whole wheat it has more nutrients. if not, its not too good for you, but it's not necessarily bad.

just look it up.

The thing about bagels is they are more calorie dense then other bread items like sliced or english muffins.  I think you handled that great, splitting it.

BTW in the walmart fridge sectin they have a 100 cal bagel made by a compny calle The Alternative (they make engish muffins too).

I love the Alternative breads!  They also make a really low calorie pita bread that is awesome.

personally, i love bagels! i eat them all the time. at least once a week, but depending on the week it could be like four times. lender's refridgerated bagels has 100% whole wheat ones that are 180 calories which i don't find bad and they also have blueberry ones that are 210 calories which isn't bad for a blueberry bagel. i've managed to lose weight and maintain my low weight while eating bagels, so i'd say they're alright :)

I eat an HEB multi-grain or HEB cinnamon bagel just about every morning. They only have 150 calories for the whole thing -- and they are NOT miniature. Sometimes I'll put apple butter on them, but even toasted with a tablespoon of Country Crock it would only be 210 calories. Still not bad. That said, most of the bagels in my grocery store have at least 270 calories. You definitely have to check bagels by brand. The bakery kind (like Panera) could have well over 400 calories. Add the cream cheese and you could easily hit 500 calories.   Best advice, read the label and know what you are eating. Good luck.

See, I live across the street from this amazing bagel shop that sells giant bagels, fresh from the oven, for $0.90. (used to be $0.75, but prices of wheat went up :\) So...it's really hard for me to make myself not eat one of those for breakfast or lunch or a snack.

Given the size of the bagel, the type of wheat they use to make it, and basing it off of other cafe-style bagel calories available on this site, 1 bagel = 350-400 calories.

augh....my waistline....!!!

It's not the fact that it's a bagel, it's that it's made with white flour and has a lot of cals. It you get a mini wheat bagel then there's not problem, but like it's been said before those regular sized bagels pack in hundreds of cals
i dont know why people think bagels are fattening, a truly whole grain bagel with all the nutrition of whole ....grainyness will be very good for you and be high in fiber and not fattening.

Its white bread thats fattening, leaves you hungry ten minutes later and starves your body of nutrients. since most bagels are oversized and white flour, you will be able to eat that unfilling 400 calorie monster and be hungry only a short time while.

;) I'm pretty sure you're referring to "WESTERN BAGELS" and they make an alternative bagel. 110 calories a bagel. My favorite are sweet wheat and spiced. If you order them online, def be sure to get some of their pitas. They're amazing at 110 cals for the entire pita.

Bagels can fit into any diet if you just eat the right ones. If you share one with a friend, then go for it. It's just enriched sugary carbs.. but aren't they delicious?
