Barilla Plus Pasta Question!
Ok super stupid question....when logging pasta do you weigh it after it is cooked or before? 2 oz serving sized is so small I just want to be sure.
Thanks
Before. The serving size on the side of the box is a precooked measure.
It might be handy to cook only 2 oz the first time and then measure it with a cup measure. I did this, and now I know that when I cook Barilla thin spaghetti, one cup of cooked pasta is the equivalent of 2 oz precooked. The cup measure will vary depending on the type of pasta (angel hair, thin spaghetti, linguine, etc). Try it with only 2 oz the first time, and then every time after this you can cook larger amounts and just dish up one cup (or half cup or whatever it comes out to be) as a serving.
Just to clarify, pasta plumps when cooking, so 2 oz preccoked weight will differ from the postcooked weight. Kindof like cooking meat but in reverse (meat shrinks b/c it loses water and therefore weight). Hope that helps!
I'm a nurse I realize that water doesn't have calories...BUT pasta weighs more once you re-hydrate it....there for 2 oz dry vs. wet changes the amount of pasta that equals 2 0z.. I didnt realize my simple question would be a reason to humiliate me on this support site. I'm so shocked. And hurt....I thought this was a place we could all ask sometimes very common sense simple things and not have it crush my self esteem. DISAPPOINTED
!
Floyd9999 thanks that's what i figured I was just looking for support in my "Guess" But you better not "guess' on this site as you end up looking like and idiot!
You didn't ask a wrong question -- it is actually quite a common question as the packages don't make it clear. And of course, you are correct -- 2oz of dry pasta will not yield 2oz of cooked pasta.
Please don't let the responses of a few, color your views of the entire site.
Very reasonable question, I thought. And I think you're doing the right thing - taking the time to get the correct information and numbers in the beginning makes it so much easier as you go. Keep at it, and just ignore the rest. Good luck to you!
BTW, if you haven't already, check out the Barilla Whole Grain pasta. It's marginally lower in calories, fat, and sodium, but it does have more fiber. It tastes less like traditional "enriched" pasta, kind of like the difference between white and wheat bread, but I think it tastes quite good!

You obviously weren't the idiot in that situation :) Your question made perfect sense!!
Wow people are so sensitive.
And deleting posts? CC is becoming a "happy place for all" sort of forum. How sad.
People so easily forget there is no tone in the internet. They get humiliated by things that were in no way meant to be humiliating. Grow some tougher skin. We're all here to help. If you don't believe it read through our responses. Sorry I don't sugar coat every message I write.
