For me, I stick to one of my almost a snack snacks.
1. Water / Tea / Black Coffee (0 calorie bevarages)
A No Brainer. Fluid temporaily abates hunger. Especially caffeine, which acts like a mild appetite suppressant. Flavoured herbal teas (I like Celestial Seasonings Fruit Sampler) Can be quite nice when I want a tasty something, Chai Tea is also a good one. I don't drink diet pops, but those are also an option for those whole do. As far as black coffee goes, I like flavoured instant coffees as well. Adds some dessertish qualities with 0 calories.
Also, here is a great natural tea recipe that stills the stomach and is quite flavorful.
3 cups (750ml) Boiled water
2 tbsp chopped fresh ginger
3 whole cloves
1/2 vanilla bean
Use a teapot with a strainer, or a reusable mesh tea bag to hold the ingredients, allow to steep for about 5-10 mins. Serve. Its great Chilled, I make pitchers of this for my fridge!
2. Miso Soup / Bouillion Soup.
This is a favorite of mine. Boil some water, put in a cup and add a cube of your favorite bouillion OR a tsp of white (shiro) miso and some shredded seaweed (nori) Both of these soups are hot, salty, and a negligable 5-15 calories. It can really get you through if your looking for some salty comfort.
Sweet cravings can be conquered with a couple of sliced up strawberries or a small palm full of blueberries or raspberries. Only 7-25 calories and naturally sweet and healthy.
Sucking on a peppermint sometimes realyl does it for me. Mint calms the stomach. Also, the crunch and the end can quell the desire for crunchiness. and it's only 5-10 calories.
5. Small Sucker
The dollarstore mini kind. It provides sweetness, a small joy, childhood memories. Etc. Can get your through some rough spots. Only about 25 calories.
You may have heard all these before, I just thought I'd share what I like to do with you!
Have a great day!
thanks for sharing!
Man hunger has been driving me crazy. As soon as I'm through eating breakfast, I'm hungry. Etc... I've had the hot soups, hot teas, water, and still was hungry.
Didn't know I was craving anything but I had some good chocolate that I bought before I started CC. I had 1 piece (50 calories) and suddenly the hunger disappeared. What a relief!! I've been hungry for 3 days.
I feel like the metabolism has kicked up and I am losing weight--so this is a good thing to be hungry, but it is also nice to stop it now and again.
Thanks! I do the miso soup thing too. I also eat tons of marinated cucumbers (vinegar, salt, garlic, minimal sesame oil) when I am hungry.
try it, it works!
absterry, Thanks, I'll give it a try next time. Thank goodness that hunger beast went away. I was able to go out to dinner and not overindulge--also thanks to some of the postings I've read.
I love this site...I keep telling people about it!

le3: if your still hungry, heres a trick that works for me: try smelling some fresh fruit or peanut butter (or anything for that matter) as long as it has a strong fragrance. The smell tells your brain you are about to be fed something delicious. Your brain then tells your stomach, Hey YOU! shut up with all that grumbling down there, your fixing to get fed so CHILL the **** OUT! your stomach will stop grumbling within about 2 minutes.
try it, it works!
Wow- That seems like a binge waiting to happen. For me at least. That's awesome if you have the will power to do it. I'm not sure if its healthy to just smell a great smell and then ignore the cues telling you to eat it though. Seems like it would mess with the natural process of things.
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
