Beer VS Soda

Quote  |  Reply

Now.. don't get me wrong, I know that they are both not exactly health foods and something you should avoid or have in small quantities.

However, I LOVE beer and I LOVE soda. Just curious which one you think is the lesser of the two evils and why? I would say beer because it's not so packed with sugar.

I suppose that is what the food log is for.  You can look up your own brandsDo your own research.  I'm not trying to be snotty, but what is the use of having these tools if people don't use them?

I posted this thread with the simple intent to spark a fun convo and get people's opinions. I am very aware of the food log and I use it quite often, but thanks.

Soda is 100% PURE junk food. Sugar + colouring + bubbles. At least some studies have shown a few health benefits from certain beers, particularly dark ones.

Ditto what cellophane_star said.  There are NO health benefits from soda, but there are some good things from beer.  For one it has quite a bit of vitamin B12, and I have read that one beer a day is good for the heart.

BEER > SODA

:)

Just mix them together and forget about it.  My wifes friend from Germany was just telling us about a drink that's half soda half beer.

Seriously, go with diet soda.

Beer is a square meal in a round glass.  Soda is just chemically bellywash.

My vote is for beer.

I also vote for beer. Not necessarily because of the health benefits, but because it tastes, well, special. Excessive sweetness gets very old very fast, especially as part of a good diet. Plus it`s easier and more fun to sip on (dark beer particularly), as opposed to soda, which some people have a tendency to chug down.

Unfortunately, if you are a driver, your options are pretty much limited.

My goodness somebody got up on the wrong side of the bed.

I suppose that's what these forums are for. To ignite some conversation (friendly) and debate. And maybe meet some nice people! Laughing

I would pick beer on a hot, hot day as a treat for sure! Soda just seems to increase my cravings for chocolate. (A big vice of mine)

Beer = whole grains and veggies.

Soda = a bunch of ingredients I can't pronounce.

Ewwww!  I avoid this stuff usually.  I just can't get used to the overly sweet taste of the 'beer' or the diluted taste of the 'soda'.  It's just not that good to me, but it's what most women tend to drink over here.  When I meet a new man, they're usually astounded/thrilled that I'm drinking a real beer.

Anywhoooo.  The drink has many names depending on where you are in Germany (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radler).  They also mix beer with sprite.  A really strange one that I particularly dislike is wheat beer mixed with banana nectar.

Back to the thread topic:  stick with beer.  dump the soda!

The problem with soda is that its easy to get into a habit of drinking diet soda instead of water.  It doesn't have any nutritional value as others have pointed out.   If I must have soda, I try to limit it to one 12 oz can a day.   Usually if I am thirsty, drinking water instead ends that craving for a soda.   Diet soda can also lead to feeling hungry which then tempts you to eat food along with the soda.

For me, the worst is at restaurants where I can have three or four refills of a diet soda and eat all the food they bring. Not good!

Beer on the other hand isn't the best, but usually most people wont drink beer in place of water, or drink it excessively.   Of course, the body will switch to burning alcohol instead of burning fat, so its not the best choice.   I'd say beer or wine is best in the evening when you are relaxing anyway.

I notice mommakitty is crabby a lot. If people are bothering you that much why do you read the forums?

I can't even remember the last time I drank a soda- unless it was mixed with Jack Daniel's.  I would definitely take beer over soda, but I'm not big on ANY carbonated drinks anyway.

soda during the day.  My trick is to buy it at the coffee shop with a shot of vanilla in it at $2/drink.  That way you can't possibly "chug it".  no more "3 12-packs for $10"!!!

Beer at night, strong stuff that you sip in a nice glass or mug.

hehe clearly we've never hung out ;)

Beer for sure!

Soda is really just a waste of time. Sure I love soda but it is empty calories and friends don't get together at a bar and drink soda (well some might but not mine!) I would rather skip the soda all day so I can have a beer or two out with friends.

And if you are looking for a better option for alcohol and like the soda, a bacardi and coke has very little calories and wine is great too!

Cheers!

So why limit this to soda or beer?  What about wine or mixed drinks?  I mainly drink water, but tend to order rum & diet at a bar.  Wine is typically the alcohol of choice if I'm going to have a drink with dinner.  I can't stand beer.

What if we rephrase the question:

Rather than Beer or soda, how about yeast pee or acidic sugar water?

Laughing

BEER BEER BEER.

lol...I view them the exact same way!  Well I didn't used to think of soda as "acidic sugar water" until I started having to take medication that causes my stomach to produce excess H2SO4.  Now if I have a soda there's a strong chance I'll hav acid indigestion or gas later, so I don't have it much.  I never drank beer cuz I didn't like the yeasty taste (or smell). But nowadays I can't have any form of alcohol.
