Why bother with milk in cereal...water is good!

Quote  |  Reply

Okay I know it sounds gross but I ate my Post Great Grains Pecan Crunch this morning with some added dates and...WATER!

My friends laughed because the only time anyone ever does that is when you are craving cereal and are out of milk (and are 8 years old!).  But I hate milk (seeing as how it is cow breast milk for a future half ton animal) and started drinking soy milk recently but am not sure about the whole 10 days freshness on the soy milk.

Due to the sweetness of the dates and cereal (and the INSANE amount of calories in the cereal - 200 for a 1/2 cup!!!!!) the water was fine.  Wierd but fine.

So I saved myself about 100 calories today (late-night popcorn snack here I come) and don't have to rush to buy milk.

Anyone else put water on cereal or anything else equally strange?

cellulitedelight, you are AWESOME!!!

"I'm not a workout nut and my idea of exercise is ripping off clothes to have sex, and being on top during."  HA!
*bows* Sex cured my thunder thighs.
At camp they would sprinkle our cereal with powder milk and pous in water - UGH!  I would go dry easily before water, although I like my milk the most low fat as possible so watered down probably wouldnt phase me.  More power to you though.
We could do whole threads on sex and weight loss... better imo than other forms because you burn cals AND feel better about yourself (I never feel better about myself after seeing how far I can't run!)
i use nonfat soy milk most of the time. it's only 35 calories for a half cup. water doesn't sound like it would be very good. i would rather eat it dry.

I hated milk all my life too, never drank it... now have severe osteoporosis, and break bones by looking at them wrong in the mirror.

Did you know that your peak for bone density is before age 35?  If you don't get the density in your youth, when your estrogen/testostrogen wains (35-50) you will be the frail old lady with the hump on her back.  Drink the milk or take calcium suppliments.

That sucks but lucky for me...osteoperosis does not generally affect african americans.  Unfortunately diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, and a whole lotta junk in the trunk does!  I'll take the booty but not the others.  LOL.
unsweetened vanilla almond breeze is AWESOME in cereal! and only 40cals per CUP!! they have it at trader joes :)
Um..gross.  I can't stand milk either.  I just like to eat cereal dry though.  Although I guess I drink water along with it.  But I certainly don't put cereal and water into a bowl.  Ew.
we women need milk for the calcium!
Everytime I go to the grocery store I can NOT find Almond Breeze, is it usually in the baking section of the grocery store?
i find it next to the soymilk
That alright i am allergic to milk and soy. So i can't have soy milk either.. Yeah when i was little i ate LIFE cereal with Fruit Juice... Ohhhhh So goood
Sorry, that sounds vile! I tried putting orange juice on my cereal one time when I ran out of milk, but it was so horrible I couldn't eat it. I'd expect water to be just as bad. If I'm out of milk, yoghurt works okay, but I wouldn't want anything else...
i have been eating cereal with water for years. i love it, especially when the water is extra cold.

i don't like milk, unless it is used in baking, or in a starbucks latte ;) (nonfat, of course!)
If you dont like cow milk there are other alternatives such as rice milk or even almond milk both are very good. I love them both but also like cow milk and I hate the taste of soy milk so if I want milk around the house that our son wont drink it is rice or almond milk for me he just gives the yuck face. lol. Yell I get my rice milk in the healthfood store and my almond milk at Walmart or healthfood store.
I don't drink milk, but I do take calcium, and I love half n half. (bunk the calories),  I remember having water in my cereal when I was 15!!! Spent the night with a relative, and she wouldn't go get milk, so it was either eat the cereal with water. . . or don't eat!!! It wasn't that bad, but I still would rather the milk. They are right if you don't put calcium into your diet you will be sorry once you get past the age of 30ish!!!  Unfortunately, you will develope the hump!!!

Milk and water taste the same to me (ive ruined my tastebuds =P)
so i usually use water since i cant taste the difference

that's really not true. other things have calcium,
kale, almonds, calcium-fortified soy milk and juice, calcium-set tofu, soybeans and soynuts, bok choy, broccoli, collards, chinese cabbage, mustard greens, and okra.

and all that stuff has no cholesterol and good fats, if any.

African Americans are frequently lactose intolerant too!  Lower dairy consumption AND lower rate of osteoporosis.    Hmmm... that reminds me of the Chinese who also consume little to no dairy and osteoporosis is practically  unheard of in their country.

Don't get me wrong, I love milk and cheese and ice-cream and yogurt and anything dairy.  But, there sure seems to be more and more evidence that its not the superfood that people think it is.

bingo.
it is a super food. for a calf.

"Whole cow's milk is suited to the nutritional needs of calves who double their weight in 47 days and grow to 300 pounds within a year. In fact, human beings are the only species to drink the milk of another species, and the only species to drink milk beyond infancy. In addition about 90% of the world's adult population (in Britain the figure is probably 25%) is deficient in the enzyme needed to digest milk properly. The enzyme lactase is present in infants for digesting their mother's milk, but levels decline after the age of five years."

but not for a human. humans drink human milk. for a while. then they stop once they are no longer an infant.

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
