Chicken and testosterone (women, please respond!)

Quote  |  Reply
A few days back I read a thread on here about certain foods increasing testosterone levels. I then did some research and found out that chicken is in fact one of the highest testosterone stimulating foods. Anyways, this week chicken breasts were on special, so I bought a crapload of them - and I mean crapload! I don't know what I was thinking, but now the fridge and freezer are filled with chicken breasts. This means that this is all I am going to be eating for the next I don't know how long!

Now I am asking if any of the women on here eat chicken on an everyday basis, and if you've noticed any excess hair growth??

(By everyday basis, I mean 200-250g per day, 5-6 days a week...)

Thanks!

Hi Moscovite,

When I want to trim down, I actually eat a chicken breast for lunch + 1 for diner. Keeps me full, high in protein and low in fat... I usually have a chicken breat 4-5 days a week.

I had never heard about the high testosterona and have never experienced any excess hair growth (believe me, I would notice). Or any muscle gorwth...

Hope this helps Smile

Eating meat in general boosts testosterone levels! In women, testosterone is believed to maintain muscle and bone strength and also boost the libido.   Wo-hoo...
there have been times when i've eaten a lot of chicken for a period of time, but it was probably more in the 100-150g/day range.  like you, i will buy a big bag of chicken breast pieces, because they're convenient and reasonably priced.  but i get pretty bored with chicken, and after eating a bag or two, will lose my appetite for it.

i've never noticed any of the effects you've mentioned.  and i'm not terribly hairy or muscly, so i think i too would notice.
Thanks very much for your replies. That's very relieving! I've always eaten chicken, but never quite in this quantity and this often. And honestly, I'm not even sure what testosterone does - I just know that it's a male hormone, so I guess I just got paranoid.

I eat two chicken breasts for lunch or dinner 4-5 times a week and I have not noticed anything weird in the hair department. :-)

Puh Lease!

I eat chicken all the time  5-6 time a week and I am no where near ready to  stand between Tiger Woods and Roger Federer in a Gillette commercial!

Chicken and any meat for that matter will boost testosterone but don't go buying the shaving cream yet !

Even a woman's body has testosterone as part of the normal hormones in the blood stream.  To say that something stimulates testosterone is not to say that it necessarily does you harm.

Some women (like me) do have trouble with excess testosterone, but I've never been told it is because of chicken.  More likely it is genetic.  I take a blood test annually to monitor my hormone levels and I was normal last time, in spite of the fact that I consume chicken several times a week.

Yeah, I was gonna eat some chicken tonight, but this thread made me start thinking...

How many ounces in a crapload?

Well thank goodness. ANd the Gillette commercial joke was funny =)

Bobs, it's kind of hard to say exactly how many ounces, but it was enough to fill most of my fridge and freezer. As for how much I'm planning to eat, probably 200-300g+ per day... would that be about 10 ounces?

Ayways, my libido(lol) and I are very relieved!

moscovite- lol-- crap- i eat it so much chicken breast & eggs... i'm more surprised i haven't grown feathers or laid eggs yet--

do NOT worry just as everyone posted! chicken breast has been touted as lean protein for a couple decades now, and there's no studies publicising an increase in female body/facial hair!

i don't think ALL the chicken breast gave me my muscle- but it sure helped! So EAT it!!!

as far as how NOT to get sick of it? - GRIND IT UP! you know the fat content is cleaner & you can mix whatever you want in it -- it's endless!

  • burgers- grind w/2 tbs oatmeal & spices of your choice - grill-serve on greens
  • meatballs - grind w/oats & italian spices - bake/drop in tomato sauce -
  • pasta fagioli -  grind it up italian spices- mix w/fat free broth, any & all veggies you can dig up- chopped tomatoes & beans
  • fritatta - throw 5 egg whites, 1 egg, and 4 oz chicken breast in processor- add spices, pour over veggies in a pan & let it set w/cover (i LOVE this)
  • teriyaki- grind w/ginger, green onions, teriyaki, some oats- grill it or bake it like a meat loaf-- mmmm

possibilities are endless really-- you can mix almost anything in chicken breast when you grind it up to season it through & through & give you some boost by adding oats to it (minimal amount!)

Thanks for all the ideas! So far lemon marinade has been working for me, but I have a feeling that sooner or later I'll be trying the fritatta (most likely sooner).

off topic a little, but iamme, do you have a special grinder?  your recipies looked delicious, but i have never ground my own meat and don't know if i would need a new kitchen tool to do that...

hey all--

jess- nope! i just throw it in the processor or blender & even use my hand blender sometimes & give it a good set of pulses- multiple times to grind up the oats or spices well-- it's even better when you let the ground meat sit overnight or freeze 4-5oz patties of it-- the flavor is FAR more INTENSE!

by the way- the fritatta is AWESOME- i mean, it's pretty dense for an egg dish- the key is truly pulsing that meat to a pulp with the eggs-- and I mean- it's SO filling w/the veggies-- you will be SHOCKED & it's PACKED with protein for one dinner! So you can lower on the egg whites or whole egg if you like-- I just have to eat A TON of protein a day & found this helpful for me grams wise!

OH & do this with turkey breasts too-- i do NOT trust the fat content on ground chicken/turkey packages-- I've even done the pulsing of very lean round steak w/the egg whites & my god it was so damn good I haven't eaten it again in fear I will continually just eat red meat day in & day out--

oh & you can pulse canned tuna, salmon, whatever w/the eggs too for interesting mixes! try avocodo in the frittata too! MMMMM
