I'm meeting a friend for lunch tomorrow and a local Chinese restaurant. I have searched for Chinese food in this forum and have noticed a few things, 1. avoid breaded items, 2. don't be afraid to take it home. Cool, but I still don't really know what to get. I've never been to this restaurant but I found their menu online, http://hunangardenrestaurant.liveonatt.com/di ne_in_menu.nxg right now I'm leaning towards Chicken with Garlic or Chicken with Broccoli. I'm supposed to stay under 1,500 c for my daily total and I typically have a small breakfast (oatmeal and tea and sometimes a piece of fruit), so I can afford to have a larger lunch but I don't want to overdo it. What do you guys think?

personally, i would choose chicken and broccoli (no garlic breath later!) to get in a veggie serving too.  and if you go a little over for the day, since chinese is hard to get a firm grasp of calories on, then no biggie! you have to eat an EXTRA 3500 calories on top of what you normally eat to gain a pound!! don't dry yourself out too much by holding off until lunch or skimping on dinner either!!

besides, chinese is sooo yummy, it's hard to say no!

Buddhist delight is vegetarian, so you can shave off some calories there.

okay, back from lunch and had about 3/4 of the chicken and brocolli about half a cup of white rice, water and a fortune cookie. Now I'm not sure how to log it, I looked up chinese food chicken and broccoli and got this: Chicken & Broccoli (Pei Wei Diner) - Chinese & Asian/Meals

which is about 300 calories. Does that seem like a good guesstimate?

it varies so much from restaurant to restaurant

you'd have had to have been to a pei wei so you'd know if it compares

I have been to a pei wei and I have to say that in my case - the portion was not huge, the sauces were all very light (of course I wasn't choosing anything with a sweet thick sauce either), I was able to ask for brown rice instead of white, so overall, the pei wei meals might tend to be 'lighter' than many other places

But... not having been to the place you went, I couldn't say for sure...

Sometimes you just have to go with your best guess and trust that everything averages out in the end.
