Cutting Splenda and Artificial Sweeteners

Quote  |  Reply

I want to cut down my splenda and artificial sweetener consumption because I'm experiencing some intestinal discomfort...

Plus isn't it bad for health?

Who wants to do this also with me?

Today has been a bad day because I've eaten all these splenda with:

-Plain yogurt

-Coke Light

-With oatmeal

-Green Tea

Starting tomorrow I aim to cut down by A LOT!

Have you tried stevia? It's an all natural 0 calorie sweetener, it's the only sweetener I'll ever use.

Unfortunately Stevia is unavailable where I live.

Even Splenda I hoard from Starbucks!

Equal is available though...

I use far too much artificial sweetner too. For a while I had exclusively switched to stevia, but recently I've started using both Stevia and Splenda. Starting tomorrow I will cut down on the amount of Splenda I use for breakfast (I put it on my cereal/yogurt, fruit, and in coffee). Thanks for the motivation!

Maybe you can order Stevia online.  That is the  only 0 calorie sweetener that is safe.  For me, I just use products with sugar and just limit my intake.

i've also tried to cut out splenda. i used to use it in my hot tea all the time during my ED. and now whenever i have splenda, it reminds me of two years ago during that horrid time.. so i can hardly use it now without bad memories lol. but at restuarents i do use it in iced tea or something. that's really the only time i use it nowadays. oh and i also drink a lot of this diet sweet tea that has a lot of artificial sweetners in it. tryin to cut back!!!

Ok guys lets start tomorrow!

I intend to have a plain yogurt with blueberries and strawberries for breakfast. Usually I add splenda to the yogurt but tomorrow I will NOT!

you could also try xylitol & agave which are both natural.

Or you can try to cut out the sweetener little by little until you don't use it anymore.

To be honest I LOVE plain yogurt as it is.  And it's been an acquired taste - I have been eating sweetened yogurts all my life but only recently have I realized that plain tastes great by itself too.

So much healthier than buying sweeteners.  And cheaper too.

I cut them ALL out for I as well have some  serious gastro issues but more importantly they are ALL just so unhealthy. I have to watch my sugar intake so sadly or just matter of factly I use honey in my tea..just a little..and raw brown suger if I use sugar. Splenda and Stevia is no better for me..as my Gastro says..so I NEVER use them anymore..I think I used to use 6 in my tea and coffee but I gave up caffeine so the coffee part was easy. I used at least 10 -15 a day, probably more. Hooked..then I started reading about it..Honey..Agave Necter..and raw sugar all very sparingly..and I REALLY miss that super sweet taste every day..Best of luck and feel free to PM me if you would like to chat!Cool

Day 1 of the mission

I couldn't stop myself drinking a Diet Cola for my morning snack, as there wasn't any drinks besides water in my fridge :(

Plus for the morning yogurt, it was simply too sour to bear....

Sigh.....I guess I'll take it step by step, not cutting it out immediately.

So no more for today!!!

really its all about step by step and acquiring tastes. Same with green tea. Drinking plain, real, green tea may taste bland or too "earthy" at first, but give it some time and after a while it grows on you. I honestly think we can do this with any food type. It worked for me for green tea, and even natto (which I never thought would happen).

I HATE artificial sweetners (including Stevia; they say it's all natural or whatever, but don't they claim that about ALL artificial sweetners including splenda? I just don't trust it!) Why don't you just buy all natural flavored yogurt (like chobani greek yogurt, for example)? Then you wouldn't have to add any artificial sweetner. If it's because of the higher caloric content, you can rearrange your daily meals to allow for 40 or so extra calories with the yogurt.

OP: didn't you just write in a separate post that you are eating two cups of sugar free jello a day?  (I'm sure you know that has artificial sweeteners too).

I have found that the best way to lose my sweet tooth is to stop eating sweets, even those with fake sweetener.  I switched from sugared yogurt to plain yogurt with fresh berries - now whenever I have the sweet stuff again (or the kind sweetened with spendla) I can't stand the sweetness.

Seriously - the best way to cut the sweet tooth is to just stop trying to replace sugar with fake sweeteners.

I'm not managing to cut out sweeteners, I mean, at least 1 meal a day consists of me adding Splenda to my meal.

Like for today I had 2 cups of Sugarfree Jello (my newest crave) and some splenda in my banana with oatmeal.....

:(

no biggie, as long as you don't go overboard.

JUst be Mindful and use as least amount as possible but don't beat yourself up over it..((HUGS))

Aw thanks guys, I'll try, but you know what, one of the reasons I've tried to cut them out is my body's reaction to these sweeteners.

I've noticed since I started drinking diet soda and sweetening with splenda that:

-My hair's falling out more

-Started feeling cravings for more sweeteners!

I know I'm getting a balanced diet so it's not me being nutritionally deprived of something, but it's the sweeteners!

It totally makes my pain level rocket up HIGH AS THE HEAVENS..

I'm truly off it..Honey..or sugar in the raw or agave necter for me!

I have LOTS of Gastro Issues so I can relate!

PM me for support..It's hard but do able..

I'm trying to stop smoking my 3 cigerettes a day..talk about challenges that I can't overcome ..so I know what you are feeling my friend  Cool

Good for you! These chemicals are not good for the body! If you cut out the artificial sweeteners and the high fructose corn syrup you will realize that you don't need things as sweet as thought and a dab of honey or agave nectar will do just fine to sweeten things like tea and yogurt. Try to kick the soft drinks!
