Alright, I've tried searching the forums, but I still don't have a clear answer. I know Diet Rite is better for you than Diet Coke/Pepsi because there's no sodium and such, but my main question is this: Is Diet Rite okay to drink every day? People say to limit yourself on Diet drinks, but I've heard good things about Diet Rite. Un-confuse me please? Thank you!
Basically all diet sodas use artificial sweeteners. If you are ok with them, then feel free. I personally drink 2-3 diet sodas per day, along with tons of water. Some people think Artificial Sweeteners will cause all sorts of problems...none proven by the way...and some like me think it is a way to cut cals and still have what you like. I have heard that they can make you hungrier and lead to more eating, but I don't personally experience that at all.
About 8 years ago, I was 230 pounds. I switched to diet soda, I was drinking a ton of the regular stuff, and I cut back on fast food. That is all I did and I lost 60 pounds in about 9 months. I'm sure my metabolism was a little faster back then but still!
Just from my own experience...I cut out diet drinks about 3 months ago and have felt fuller after a meal and have noticed less sugar cravings (and I mean WAY less). If I were you, I would give it a try for a couple of months to see if it has any effect.
Oh, and on a side note, if you prefer to drink something with a little flavor, try ice water with a couple squirts of lemon or lime juice. It has zero calories and is said to aid in digestion. Hope that helps!
I have to agree with dawnie... I've seen some threads on here where people bash diet sodas, but none of the supposed negative effects have been proven (trust me, I tried to find it on Google Scholar...they're just not proven). I drink about 2 or so diet sodas a day, because I've tried to cut them, and in the end I just don't see a point in it. I mean, I think it's a great idea to drink plenty of water, too, because they're not good at hydrating you for sure. But if you like sodas, there's nothing wrong at all with diet cokes. Although if you do have sodium issues (ie high blood pressure?), then I'd say Diet Rite is the thing for you... otherwise, a diet soda is only, like 2% of your daily sodium intake. But yeah, it's still a good idea to try to switch it up with water or flavored water. I think most of what people say is purely anecdotal... it's probably best to just see what works best for you.
Six months ago I was a diet coke fiend myself, 24+ oz a day. One day I woke up and just stopped drinking it. Sure the first week was rough, but after that, it was all good. I strongly recommend giving up soda completely.
I think the key is moderation as always. In order to get cancer from artificial sweetners, you'd need to consume incredible amounts of the stuff over an extended period of time. One or two diet sodas a day shouldn't bother the average person.
And unless your doctor told you to watch out for sodium, you probably have no need at all to worry about it. I don't like Diet Rite personally and much prefer Diet Coke. Fresca is nice too.
I am a diet rite addict myself. I work for a soda and beer distributer and thats how I started drinking it. I figured I'd pick up a case since it had no calories, no sodium, no caffeine, and no carbs... I LOVE IT... I dont think they make a bad flavor (the white grape is my fave I think)
I tried going with zero soda the first month I was on here and personally I didnt notice a change.. but thats just me I know some people swear up and down they feel a big improvement. Just not me.. I think just a couple of sodas a day are fine... as long as your not ONLY drinking soda I wouldnt think it would be problem.
but you should see what works for you. notice after you drink it if it makes you hungrier or crave certain things. i haven't drank (drunk?) a whole cup or can of regular soda in about 2 or 3 years, and that was my first step to initial weight loss. maybe try to not drink soda for a few days or a week, and see if there's any differences in appetite, energy, etc. if all is the same, and drinking the diet soda isn't ruining your diet, then i'd say it's fine to keep drinking them. personally i'd say you should still limit your consumption to 1-2 cans a day.
Thank you for the responses everyone! They really helped =] So I guess I'll go for a compromise. One a day sounds good to me. My mother prefers that I limit myself, anyways, so that will make her happy. =]
White grape is my favorite, too ;]
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
