Quote  |  Reply

I just bought my first jar of peanut butter...but what do i do with it??  It seems really creamy and I don't think I can eat much at once.  Do you eat it with fruit, veggies?  Suggestions please!!

Peanut butter is one of those things I think I could eat with almost anything.  Here are some of my favorite and most common choices:

Toast
Bananas
Crackers
A spoon
Jam
Asian dishes - peanut sauce
Oatmeal
Honey
Carrots
Celery
Ice cream

Yeah you don't need too much at once - say 2 tsp a day. I like it with mixed in a pot of fruit and yogurt, on toast/crumpet with jam or spread on bars or homemade muffins :)

AMEN! I'm with you! I just like to eat it plain. I can't really buy it though, as I will eat half a jar in one sitting!

To answer your question though- it's good on toast, on a banana or apple, to make a PB and jelly/honey sandwich, on pretzels/crackers, in desserts, mixed in yogurt or pudding to make a dip for fruit, pretzels, graham crackers, brownies, marshmallows, whatever you can think of! Can you tell I love PB?? ;-) LOL!

How the hell have you never had peanut butter before??

My father loved it with celery sticks.  Or rather, if the celery sticks were slathered with peanut butter, then he would eat them.  Celery has virtually zero calories - but no other redeeming qualities that I can find Laughing - other than it crunches.  Oh wait...it's easy to scoop up peanut butter with a celery stick AND you can spread peanut butter on the celery stick with a knife.  (Am I stretching a bit to find good things to say about celery?)

My ideal way to eat PB - and it has to be extra crunchy - would be to toast a small piece of whole grain bread, spread the peanut butter while the bread is still hot, then top with slices of banana.   Mmmmm.....Tongue out

If you want to be decadent, get some plain chocolate bars, any decent brand, and slather on the peanut butter and enjoy!

Otherwise, if you want to just enjoy it sensibly try:

  • putting it on whole wheat toast
  • spreading it on a wrap such as Flatout flatbread wraps
  • putting it on a cornbread muffin, or other muffins
  • putting it on plain white cake in place of frosting (ok, a bit decadent)
  • putting it on plain chocolate cake
  • putting it on corn chips/ salsa chips, low-calorie or regular
  • putting it on celery, as suggested above
  • putting it on pancakes

I would love to know the answer to this too!!

Ah and to answer the topic posters question I use peanut butter in banana sandwhiches and on my waffles in the mornings. :D

I mainly eat peanut butter by itself though!!

I'm not sure where the OP is from but when my friend went to Australia, someone advised her to bring her own peanut butter because they don't sell it down there!

I used PB in oatmeal and on any kind of bread, crackers, apples, celery, etc.

It is also hard to find in a lot of South America unless you go to the "imported" foods section of a good supermarket.

However, I'll take the variety of dulce de leche over peanut butter any day.  :D

I like to eat mine by itself, mixed in oatmeal, on toast, on a banana, or on a toasted whole wheat english muffin.  Mmmm...  :)

One thing that I use to love to do was take a blob of peanut butter and then use it to adhese as many pieces of cap'n crunch/corn pop/french toast crunch/honey comb cereal together as I could... and then once the glob of peanut butter was saturated with cereal bits I'd pop the creation into my mouth... mmmmm. But some of my more normal peanut butter partners are:

- saltines and ritz crackers

- rice cakes

- ice cream

- pancakes, waffles, bagels, english muffins, crumpets or toast

- celery

- pretzels

- apple slices

- blended into a banana-strawberry smoothie!!!

I don't know if anyone else has tried this but I made egg white peanut butter crepes. Just mix 4 or 5 egg whites with cinnamon or some chocolate protein powder and then fry it real thin like a crepe in a pan. spread some pb and sugar free syrup on it and roll it up. They sound weird but are delicious and addicting!

P.s. i think it should be illegal for a country of any size to exist without the production of peanut butter ;-)

Whatever I can put it with...Love the stuff, 'specially home made. Just the usual: toast, bananas, english muffins, toast, apples, toast, oatmeal, solo, toast, pancakes, toast...

Edit: crepes too, but with bananas or by itself, etc. Not as adventurous as egg

Spread on an apple. Peanut butter and honey on whole wheat toast.

Naturally More Peanut Butter is great. So is PB2.

I think I have to stop buying it since I took to the habit of eating half teaspoonfuls with half teaspoon of raspberry jam. Sure, one spoonful's not that bad but I kept going back for more and went through the jar in a week! When the jam ran out I had honey instead.

Healthier uses for it I like are spreading on apple slices or on celery sticks. Satay-style sauce is also great for stir-fried chicken or vegetables.

Hehe, im from the uk and it doesn't seem to be a big thing over here. Nutella on the other hand...

I have noticed tons of posts on here about the stuff so I thought I would give it a go.

Thanks for all the great suggestions!!   I tried it with toast and banana last night - it was very awesome.  I love the ice-cream idea!!   Though since it's only 10:30am right now, I should probably go with the apple option :S.

I'm from the UK too and before coming on here, it was something that I really didn't think about, let alone have in my diet. But from reading about it so much it made me buy a jar and now it is part of my weekly diet! Which one did you get?

Sadly, I think compared to places like the US, we are really limited in types!

this might sound wierd....but i love melting peanut butter (makes it more runny) and adding to ice cream or bananas like sauce.

I watched an episode of "Man vs. Food" on the Food Channel last night.  The show was devoted to burgers.  At one place, "cricket" burgers were featured, with a wide variety of toppings.  One combination was fried egg and peanut butter put on the beef burger.
